Leaders of the Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a press conference at the party’s state office in Agartala on Sunday to vehemently denounce the alliance between the Congress and CPIM under the INDIA bloc ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Tripura, characterizing it as an “unholy alliance” driven by self-serving political motives.
State party president Rajib Bhattacharjee, alongside Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Tripura Pradesh BJP vice-president Dr. Ashok Sinha, led the charge against the opposition alliance, highlighting grievances and alleged wrongdoings during the Congress and CPIM regimes in the past.
Bhattacharjee cited a distressing incident from 2012 under the CPIM’s tenure, where two tribal girls were subjected to a brutal gang rape, their mother was viciously attacked with a sharp weapon, and their father was tragically killed. He emphasized that despite such atrocities, several Congress leaders had protested against the crime at the time, underscoring the perceived hypocrisy of the current alliance.
The BJP leaders expressed deep concern over the political landscape in Tripura, pointing to historical rivalries that have tragically resulted in the loss of lives among leaders from both Congress and CPIM. They expressed incredulity that these same parties have now joined forces to challenge the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Bhattacharjee launched a scathing critique of the Congress and CPIM, accusing them of presiding over periods of slow progress and escalating crime rates during their respective tenures. He highlighted specific economic setbacks, notably the decline of the once-thriving tea industry following the CPIM’s assumption of power, and alleged widespread corruption that purportedly led to staggering financial losses amounting to approximately Rs 35 thousand crore for the people of Tripura.
The BJP leaders described the alliance between Congress and CPIM as directionless and anti-development, attributing its formation to the parties’ unbridled lust for power and their desperation to safeguard their political existence in the state.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Vice-President Dr. Ashok Sinha echoed Bhattacharjee’s sentiments and assured of BJP’s commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and genuine progress for the people of Tripura.
