Former Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo member Manik Sarkar, while addressing a public gathering at Natunnagar in support of Congress Candidate Asish Kumar Saha for the West Parliamentary Constituency, criticized the BJP government’s approach towards dissent and rights advocacy. Sarkar accused the BJP of branding those who raise their voices against wrongs or advocate for their rights as terrorists, highlighting what he perceives as a suppression of democratic freedoms during the BJP’s decade-long rule.
During his speech, Sarkar urged the people to “vote for change” and emphasized the importance of electing a government capable of delivering genuine development both at the national and state levels. He expressed concern over the current unemployment crisis in India, asserting that the country has not experienced such high levels of unemployment in the past 50 years, particularly under the Modi government.
Sarkar criticized the BJP for making grand promises to the public before coming into power but failing to fulfill them once in office. He highlighted the disparity between the party’s pre-election rhetoric and its subsequent actions in government, suggesting that the BJP’s governance has not matched its pre-election commitments.
In the meantime, a joint meeting organized by the Congress and CPI-M parties under the banner of the I.N.D.I.A bloc was held at Jaipur area of Ramnagar assembly constituency with the aim of ensuring victory for their candidates, including Asish Kumar Saha for West Tripura Lok Sabha, Rajendra Reang for East Tripura Lok Sabha, and Ratan Das for the Ramnagar bypoll.
During the meeting, Rama Das from the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of “destroying the nation” and failing to deliver on their promises of development and change.
Das highlighted various pressing issues that she believes have been neglected by the Modi government at the Centre and the state BJP government. She mentioned concerns such as unemployment, rising prices, lack of basic necessities like food and work for all, inadequate attention to education, and farmer-related issues.
Encouraging the common people to support the I.N.D.I.A bloc candidates, Das emphasized the importance of voting for candidates who prioritize addressing these critical issues. She urged voters to cast their votes in favor of Asish Kumar Saha, Rajendra Reang, and Ratan Das, signaling a unified effort by the Congress and CPI-M to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
