In a determined bid to reinstate their terminated jobs, the 10,323 teachers from Tripura have approached the Supreme Court, challenging the judgement of the Tripura High Court.
Addressing the press at the Agartala Press Club, Santanu Bhattacharjee, one of the affected teachers, announced the filing of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) on December 18, 2023, in direct appeal against the Tripura High Court’s ruling on September 26.
In the case, the sacked teachers’ attorney, Amrit Lal Debnath, emphasised that on September 26, 2023, the Tripura High Court, presided over by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, denied the teachers’ plea during its inaugural live hearing.
Debnath expressed that there may have been challenges in effectively communicating the teachers’ perspective during the High Court proceedings.
“Following discussions with senior advocates specialising in service laws, we have filed an SLP with the Supreme Court, numbered 52,984/2023,” stated Adv. Amrit Lal Debnath. He further revealed plans to file a separate writ petition in the Supreme Court, addressing various pertinent issues, once the court reopens after the winter vacation.
In response to the ongoing legal battle, the 10,323 terminated teachers have organised a mass gathering scheduled for December 24 at the Umakanta Academy auditorium. The event aims to discuss the intricacies of the SLP filed with the apex court, fostering solidarity among the affected educators. As the legal proceedings unfold, the teachers remain resolute in their pursuit of justice and job reinstatement.
