In a heartfelt celebration of Raksha Bandhan, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha of Tripura commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his thoughtful gesture of reducing LPG gas cylinder prices by Rs 200 for all connection holders. He referred to it as an exceptional gift to the sisters and mothers of the nation.
On Wednesday, women from diverse communities, transcending caste, creed, and religion, gathered at the state capital to tie ‘Rakhi’ to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at his residence.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, Dr. Saha emphasized the significance of Raksha Bandhan, noting that it symbolizes not only the bond between brothers and sisters but also carries the responsibility of protection and affection.
Dr. Saha elaborated on the recent decision by the Union Cabinet to lower LPG gas cylinder prices and expand the Ujjwala scheme, which will provide 75 lakh new LPG connections. This decision, he declared, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Raksha Bandhan gift to women across the nation. He expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, highlighting that women engaged in household chores would benefit significantly from this reduction.
In his message to the women of the state, Chief Minister Dr. Saha recalled the promises he made to them last year and expressed satisfaction in fulfilling those commitments. He underscored the state government’s efforts, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, towards women’s empowerment, including the reservation of 33 percent of government job seats for women and 50 percent reservation for women in government market stalls and shopping complexes.
Dr. Saha also highlighted initiatives such as free education for girls in general degree colleges, the distribution of free bicycles to Class IX girl students, and the provision of free scooters to meritorious girls upon passing Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations. He pointed out the success of more than 50,000 self-help groups (SHGs) run by women, supported by the state government.
Addressing women’s safety, Chief Minister Dr. Saha noted the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the city, which has allowed women and girls to move freely without fear. He also emphasized the improved law and order situation, ensuring swift action in cases of crimes against women.
The state government’s commitment to women’s socio-economic advancement and safety remains at the forefront of its agenda, Dr. Saha concluded.
