Western Railway has cancelled the jumbo block scheduled for June 21, 2026, to ensure smooth travel for NEET aspirants across Mumbai and surrounding regions. Suburban train services will operate without major disruptions, helping lakhs of students reach examination centres on time and reducing travel-related stress on exam day.
Western Railway has announced the cancellation of the jumbo block that was scheduled on June 21, 2026. The decision has been taken to ensure uninterrupted suburban train services and facilitate smooth travel for candidates heading to their examination centres across Mumbai and adjoining regions.
According to an official communication issued by the Divisional Office at Mumbai Central, suburban train services on the Western Railway network will operate according to the regular weekday timetable on Sunday, June 21. Meanwhile, AC suburban services will continue to run as per the usual Sunday schedule.
Railway authorities stated that the move was made following a request from the Chief Passenger Traffic Manager (CPTM), who sought operational adjustments to accommodate the expected surge in passenger movement due to the nationwide medical entrance examination. The decision is aimed at preventing inconvenience to students and their families, many of whom will rely on Mumbai’s suburban railway network to reach examination venues.
Jumbo blocks are typically scheduled on Sundays to allow railway engineers and maintenance teams to undertake large-scale repair and maintenance work on tracks, signalling systems, and overhead electrical equipment. These maintenance activities are essential for ensuring passenger safety and maintaining operational efficiency. However, they often lead to service disruptions, cancellations, and delays on suburban routes.
Recognising the importance of NEET, one of India’s largest and most competitive entrance examinations for medical education, Western Railway opted to suspend the maintenance block for the day. Officials noted that uninterrupted train services are crucial to helping candidates arrive at their examination centres on time and without unnecessary stress.
Every year, lakhs of students appear for NEET, travelling considerable distances to designated exam centres. In a densely populated metropolitan region such as Mumbai, suburban railways serve as a vital transportation lifeline. Any disruption in services on examination day could significantly affect students’ travel plans and punctuality.
Railway officials emphasized that the decision reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting national-level examinations and public convenience. Similar operational adjustments have been implemented in the past during major academic examinations, recruitment drives, and other events that witness large-scale public movement.

Students and parents have welcomed the decision, viewing it as a proactive step that will help reduce travel-related concerns on one of the most important days in the academic journey of aspiring medical professionals.
