In a lively but solemn programme of Vijay Diwas the Indian Army felicitated 1971 War veterans and widows of martyrs on Saturday- the 16th December at Albert Ekka Memorial Park. The vijawa Diwas was this time organized jointly by the Indian Army’s Red Shield Division posted in Agartala, ICA department of the state government and Bangladesh Assistant High Commission.

The programme was attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Commander of the army here Brig Nilesh Choudhry, PCCF K S Sethi, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Arif Mohammed and others.

Chief Minister also felicitated Anjali Roy wife of late Bimal Roy, Bina Chakrabarty wife of late S K Chakrabarty -widows of two martyrs who had made supreme sacrifice during the 1971 war. Besides

 1971 war veterans like Tarakeswar Bhattacharjee, Paresh Chandra Saha, Manik Chandra Debnath and Ganesh Debroy were also felicitated in  recognition of their invaluable service. Two civilians Shyamal Choudhury and Swapan Bhattacharjee were also felicitated for the role during the 1971 war.  School children who bagged prizes in a Painting Competition organized for children on Dec 11 last to commemorate this historic day.

The Vijay Diwas was organized to celebrate the India’s spectacular victory over Pakistan in 1971 in which Bangladesh was born. The Diwas also remembers those who made supreme sacrifice in the war and suffered and contributed to the cause of Bangladesh.

A cultural programme with patriotic fervour was also conducted where local troupes as well as from Bangladesh also attended.  Students of Army Public School, Agartala, NCC Cadets also attended.

The Chief Minister in his address remembered 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and dwelt on the Indo-Bangla relations and friendships.

He said in the coming days the these relations will only be strengthen further.

Earlier, in the day Bangladesh assistant High Commission also organized a colourful Vijay Diwas in the high commission premises where cultural programmes were held and contribution of India, Mukti Judhhas and Sk Mujibar Rahaman et al were recollected.
