Agartala prepares for a traffic-free Durga Puja as Mayor Dipak Majumder inspects Old Motor Stand and reviews traffic regulation, crowd management and civic coordination to ensure smoother roads, safer travel and hassle-free movement for residents and visitors during the festive celebrations.
With Durga Puja fast approaching, the capital city of Tripura, Agartala, has stepped up preparations to ensure smoother roads, better traffic management and hassle-free movement for residents and visitors during the festive season.
In line with the directive of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder inspected the Old Motor Stand area on Thursday to assess traffic conditions and initiate measures aimed at making the city more orderly and congestion-free during Durga Puja.
During the inspection, Mayor Majumder held detailed discussions with civic officials and representatives of the traffic department regarding traffic regulation, crowd management and the movement of vehicles and pedestrians during the festival. The discussions focused on identifying possible congestion points and improving coordination between the civic administration and traffic authorities.
The administration is particularly focused on managing the expected surge in vehicular and pedestrian movement as thousands of people are likely to visit puja pandals, shopping centres, markets and other commercial areas across Agartala. With festive shopping and community celebrations expected to increase traffic volumes, officials are working on strategies to prevent prolonged traffic jams and maintain smooth movement on major roads.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid, Corporator Ratna Dutta, senior AMC officials and representatives of the traffic department accompanied the Mayor during the inspection. The team reviewed the existing traffic situation and discussed measures that could help streamline vehicular movement and strengthen coordination among agencies responsible for managing the city’s roads.
Mayor Dipak Majumder stressed the importance of ensuring that citizens can enjoy Durga Puja without facing unnecessary difficulties on the roads. He said the administration’s objective is to create a comfortable and safe travel environment throughout the festive period.
“This Puja, let every journey be a journey of comfort. Let Agartala rise as a city free from congestion,” Majumder said.
The proposed traffic management measures are expected to provide significant relief to everyday commuters as well as festival-goers. Better traffic flow could reduce delays, improve road safety and make it easier for families to reach puja pandals, marketplaces and shopping destinations across the capital.
Smooth traffic movement will also be important for emergency services, including ambulances and other essential vehicles, which require unobstructed access to different parts of the city. Effective crowd and traffic management could therefore play an important role in ensuring both public convenience and safety during the celebrations.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to Agartala’s image among visitors arriving in the city during Durga Puja.
