Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) holds a key meeting ahead of Durga Puja to strengthen civic services, cleanliness, drinking water, street lighting, drainage, roads and traffic management, ensuring safety, convenience and smooth celebrations for residents and visitors across Agartala.
Ahead of the upcoming Sharadiya festival, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified preparations to ensure uninterrupted civic services and better facilities for residents and visitors during the Durga Puja celebrations. A key meeting was held at the AMC conference hall to review arrangements and identify measures needed to prevent civic difficulties during the festive period.
The meeting was chaired by the AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and attended by senior officials from different municipal departments along with corporators and other representatives. Discussions focused on strengthening essential civic services in Agartala in view of the expected increase in public gatherings, vehicle movement and visitor footfall during the Puja days.
Durga Puja traditionally brings a substantial rise in crowds across different parts of the city, particularly around major Puja pandals, markets, roads and other public spaces. The increased pressure can affect several civic facilities, including cleanliness, drinking water supply, street lighting, drainage systems and road conditions. Traffic management also becomes a major concern as thousands of residents and visitors move through the city during the celebrations.
Against this backdrop, the AMC meeting reviewed the preparedness of civic services and discussed steps to ensure that people do not face unnecessary inconvenience. Officials were directed to maintain essential services efficiently in areas expected to experience large gatherings and around important Puja pandals.
Mayor Dipak Majumder reviewed the situation in different parts of Agartala with municipal officials and councillors. Particular attention was given to ensuring that civic facilities remain operational not only in the days leading up to Durga Puja but throughout the entire festive period.
Cleanliness emerged as an important area of focus during the discussions. With a large number of people expected to visit the Puja venues, the municipal authorities stressed the need for coordinated efforts by sanitation workers and officials to keep public spaces clean. Regular monitoring of waste accumulation and timely action will be important to maintain hygienic conditions across the city.
The meeting also considered drinking water availability, street lighting, drainage and road-related issues. Maintaining adequate lighting in public areas and ensuring that drainage systems function properly were highlighted as important measures for the safety and convenience of residents and the visitors.
Traffic management was another significant concern discussed during the meeting. Increased vehicle movement during the festival can create congestion, particularly near the popular Puja venues. Coordinated monitoring by municipal representatives and concerned authorities will therefore be necessary to maintain smoother movement and reduce inconvenience for the public.
The AMC called for close coordination between the elected representatives, municipal officials and workers at all levels. Corporators and officials were asked to monitor conditions in their respective areas and respond promptly whenever civic issues arise.
The Mayor Dipak Majumder said that the Sharadiya festival belongs to everyone and that the civic body would give priority to ensuring that civic problems do not affect the festive atmosphere.
“People’s convenience and safety will remain our priority, and civic services will be managed accordingly throughout the festive days,” the Mayor said.
