Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, on Sunday, urged all communities to unite and contribute sincerely towards peace and prosperity in Manipur. The state has been grappling with ethnic violence between the Meitei, Kuki, and Zo communities for over 22 months.
Speaking at an event marking the 12th anniversary of the Manipur High Court, Meghwal emphasized the importance of expediting the peace process. He expressed optimism that normalcy would soon return, enabling Manipur to play a vital role in the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Union Minister lauded the Manipur High Court’s achievements, particularly in virtual hearings and e-court implementations. He noted that over 90% of these projects had been completed, with the central government allocating ₹7,210 crore for court-related advancements.
Meghwal also suggested utilizing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to strengthen the judicial sector. He highlighted the significance of five Supreme Court judges visiting Manipur together, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, to assess the situation and extend legal aid.
The visiting judges also met displaced individuals in relief camps across Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and inaugurated legal aid clinics. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and top judiciary members also participated in the High Court event.
