Supreme Court Judge Justice N. Kotiswar Singh has called upon all communities in Manipur to come together with empathy and fraternity to resolve the state’s ongoing ethnic crisis. Speaking at the 12th-anniversary event of the Manipur High Court on Sunday, Justice Singh emphasized that the situation in Manipur is different from Jammu and Kashmir and can be resolved through peaceful dialogue and constitutional principles.
Justice Singh, who hails from Manipur and previously served as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, noted that Manipur’s geographical challenges have contributed to its long-standing issues. However, he expressed optimism that peace and unity would soon be restored.
“We have seen hope and aspiration among the people during our visit to Churachandpur and Bishnupur. Everyone wants peace and unity,” he said.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Supreme Court Justices B.R. Gavai, Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, and K.V. Vishwanathan also attended the event. Justice Gavai led a five-member Supreme Court delegation to Manipur, where they inaugurated legal aid clinics and met displaced individuals in relief camps.
Governor Bhalla praised the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, highlighting Manipur’s rich judicial history, including the historic Cheirap Court.
