Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving higher education by expediting the recruitment of faculty members and enhancing academic infrastructure. Addressing the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday, Dr. Saha announced that 401 Assistant Professors would be appointed in a phased manner to resolve the ongoing faculty shortage in the state’s colleges.

The recruitment process for 201 Assistant Professors is already underway, with the finance department approving an additional 200 positions to ensure that vacancies are systematically filled. The Chief Minister emphasized that reducing funds for educational initiatives is not an option, as the government remains dedicated to ensuring faculty availability and sustaining quality education in Tripura.

In addition to addressing faculty shortages, Dr. Saha highlighted efforts to promote Kokborok and other minority languages. “For the advancement of linguistic diversity, the state government has allocated Rs 2.16 crore, supplemented by an additional Rs 52.98 lakh,” he stated. These funds will support initiatives such as organizing seminars, workshops, and publishing educational materials in native languages.

Tripura currently has 25-degree colleges, five professional degree colleges, six polytechnic institutions, and one degree technical institute. To maintain operational efficiency, the government has recruited 473 personnel through outsourcing, along with appointing 41 Group C employees and 137 Multi-Purpose Workers through JRBT.

Dr. Saha also indicated that the recruitment process for school-level posts, including headmasters and assistant headmasters, will begin soon, with details to be finalized shortly. The government is prioritizing both faculty recruitment and infrastructure development to create a robust academic environment across the state.
