An Inspector Nandan Das, , and a Sub-Inspector Hnamchoimawia Darlong, both serving in Tripura Police’s Unarmed Branch, have been honored with the prestigious “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” for the year 2023.
This distinction is awarded to police personnel for their exceptional contributions in special operations that hold significant importance for the country’s security, states, and union territories.
Established in 2018, the medal’s primary objective is to acknowledge operations characterized by meticulous planning, high significance for the security of the country, state, or union territory, and a substantial impact on the security and well-being of the broader society, as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The award, announced annually on October 31st, is conferred in recognition of Special Operations in areas like counter-terrorism, border actions, arms control, narcotics smuggling prevention, and rescue missions.
Typically, up to three Special Operations are considered for the award each year, but under exceptional circumstances, up to five may be recognized to encourage the police forces of states and union territories.
Among the awardees are notable figures like Director General of Manipur Police, Rajiv Singh, who played a pivotal role in managing ethnic violence and senior IPS officer Amit Kumar, recognized for his commendable service in Jammu and Kashmir.
These 204 distinguished police personnel represent three central organizations—CRPF, National Investigation Agency, and the Narcotics Control Bureau—and hail from ten states across the nation.
