Tripura government aims to develop the state as an emerging tourism hub with Rs 451 crore approved for 21 projects. Chief Minister Manik Saha highlights Centre’s support, employment generation, cultural promotion, and infrastructure development across the state.
The Tripura government, with active support from the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the Ministry of Tourism, is working towards transforming the state into a major tourism hub to attract domestic and international visitors, generate employment, and enhance revenue, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Friday.
Speaking about the state’s tourism roadmap, Chief Minister Saha referred to his virtual meeting held on Thursday with DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. During the meeting, the Centre approved an allocation of Rs 451 crore for the implementation of 21 tourism-related projects across Tripura, marking a significant boost for the sector.
Addressing a programme organised by the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI), the Chief Minister said he had presented the Matabari Tourist Circuit Project during the discussion with the DoNER Minister. Following the presentation, the project received formal approval, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to Tripura’s tourism development.
Of the total sanctioned amount, Rs 267.5 crore will be provided by the DoNER Ministry, while the remaining funds will be mobilised through contributions from the Tripura government, the Union Tourism Ministry, and the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The multi-source funding approach aims to ensure timely execution and sustainable development of tourism infrastructure.
Chief Minister Saha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for their continued support and cooperation in Tripura’s development journey. He said the state government remains focused on creating world-class tourism facilities that preserve cultural heritage while generating livelihoods for local communities.
Highlighting the role of films and creative arts, Saha said cinema serves as a mirror of society, reflecting its past, present, and future, while also raising awareness about social realities. He was speaking at the inauguration of a cultural programme titled “Tripura Culture and Heritage Land” at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, jointly organised by TFTI and the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA).
During the event, certificates were awarded to students who successfully completed the 2024–25 academic session at TFTI. Graduation certificates were also presented to artists from various categories who have been officially recognised by the state government.
The Chief Minister urged TFTI students to use their creativity for positive social change. He said the state government is taking steps to develop TFTI into the best film and television institute in the entire Northeastern region. Efforts are underway to identify land for its permanent campus and to upgrade the institute into a full-fledged university.
“There is no shortage of talent among Tripura’s youth. They must utilise their skills to establish themselves, and the government will stand by them,” Saha said. He noted that states such as Assam and Manipur are ahead in regional film production and encouraged Tripura’s youth to work towards strengthening the state’s film industry with both talent and institutional support.

Emphasising that talent attracts resources, the Chief Minister said financial limitations should never discourage creative ambitions. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute Samiran Dutta, TFTI Advisor Biplab Goswami, and other senior officials and dignitaries were present at the event.
