Tipra Motha questions BJP’s silence on Bangladesh crisis as YTF stages protest in Agartala. Party leaders condemn anti-India rhetoric, violence near diplomatic missions, and warn against threats to Northeast India’s sovereignty.

The Tipra Motha Party has raised serious concerns over the ongoing political and social unrest in Bangladesh, questioning the silence of major political forces in India and accusing them of selectively ignoring violence and hostile rhetoric directed against India and the Northeast.

On Friday, Tipra Motha party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman strongly condemned what he described as a disturbing lack of response from other political parties regarding incidents of violence in Bangladesh. Although he did not name any party directly, his remarks were widely interpreted as being aimed at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing party workers and supporters, Debbarman highlighted incidents of alleged violence against minorities and Indian interests across the border. He referred to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Bangladeshi citizen who was reportedly lynched and set on fire publicly, describing the incident as a grim reminder of growing intolerance and lawlessness.

“Our party workers are often labelled as goons, yet those killing innocent people in Bangladesh face no condemnation,” Debbarman said. He further alleged that anti-India slogans are being raised openly in front of Indian diplomatic missions in Bangladesh without eliciting a strong response from political forces in India. “The real enemy is not Tipra Motha; the real enemy is hiding across the border,” he asserted.

Senior Tipra Motha leader and Executive Member Ganesh Debbarma also criticised what he termed the hypocrisy of “self-proclaimed nationalist forces.” He expressed disappointment over the absence of statements or protests against threats allegedly issued by anti-Hindu and anti-India elements in Bangladesh, some of whom have reportedly spoken about occupying parts of India’s northeastern region.

“If they cannot organise a rally, they could at least issue press statements. But there is complete silence,” Ganesh Debbarma said. He accused rival parties of branding Tipra Motha as sectarian whenever it raises concerns about regional identity, security, and dignity.

Meanwhile, the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, staged a protest earlier in the day outside the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala. The demonstration was organised in response to alleged anti-India remarks made by Bangladesh National Citizen Party leader Hasnat Abdullah and incidents of violence near the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.

Hundreds of YTF activists participated in the protest, raising patriotic slogans and warning against any attempts to undermine India’s sovereignty or make territorial claims over the Northeast. Protesters also recalled India’s decisive role in the 1971 Liberation War, emphasising that Bangladesh’s independence was achieved with significant support from the Indian Army.

YTF president Suraj Debbarma stated that political leaders in Bangladesh should not forget India’s contribution during their nation’s most critical moment. He alleged that anti-India rhetoric is being used to divert attention from domestic political failures ahead of elections.

He further warned that continued provocative statements could trigger counter-demands from communities in India’s Northeast, particularly in regions with shared ethnic and cultural ties, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
