A short film spotlighting Tripura-based startup “aAHARAN EduSMART Pvt. Ltd.” has been unveiled, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to education. This film is one of three social innovations showcased in collaboration with Netflix India and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
The film’s premiere took place during the Phase-I rollout of the third edition of “Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan” at the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). This esteemed film project aims to celebrate social innovations that significantly impact society, underscoring the power of storytelling to inspire positive change.
Out of over 1,000 applications received by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, only three startups were selected for this category. The chosen films debuted at an event titled “Inspiring Narratives: Innovation and Creativity” held at Gulshan Mahal, Mumbai. The event aimed to shed light on India’s dynamic social innovation landscape, bringing together three distinguished innovators chosen by the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). These changemakers’ impactful journeys were narrated through a mix of animation and live-action storytelling by the acclaimed actor Raj Kumar Rao.
The event included speeches by MD, NFDC, Prithul Kumar, and a video message from the Principal Scientific Advisor, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, and Dr. Sapna Poti, Director of Strategic Alliance, Principal Scientific Advisor. A highlight of the evening was the screening of the three films, each illustrating the groundbreaking work of the selected innovators.
During the Q&A session, Amit Ghosh, founder of aAHARAN, shared his experience working on the “Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan” campaign and the filmmaking process with the Netflix team in Tripura. Ghosh explained how his professional experiences fueled his commitment to improving educational access and focusing aAHARAN’s efforts in Tripura. He was honored by MD, NFDC, Prithul Kumar, and Netflix India for his contributions.
In a press interaction, Ghosh expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Tej Chingtham, CEO of AICSMUTBI, and his team for the opportunity to apply for the short film initiative. He also acknowledged the ongoing support from Startup Tripura Cell, NEDFi, NRL, NEEDP, and other organizations. Diptanu Chakraborty, co-founder of aAHARAN, also thanked the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Netflix India, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for recognizing the social impact of the aAHARAN app and giving it a national platform.
aAHARAN is an innovative learning platform designed to empower students in Tripura by overcoming language barriers and providing quality education. The other two films featured at the event highlighted startups such as Mylab Discovery Solutions, known for developing RT-PCR tests for COVID-19, and Angirus, which creates sustainable building materials from waste.
