An interactive discussion session titled as “Awareness programme on Fatal Effects of different Drugs on Human Mind and Body” was oorganized recently by Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Students’ Welfare Committee, NSS and NCC Unit of Bir Bikram Memorial College, Agartala. Prof. Dr. Arindam Datta MD (General Medicine), Principal, Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Koyel Debbarma, Dy. SP, Anti-Narcotics Unit, Tripura Police Crime Branch, Agartala remained present as the chief resource persons while. Hamari Jamatia, Assistant Professor and HoD of Political Science Department was the convenor of this awareness programme.
In the presence of around 200 audience comprising both students and teachers, the programme started at 11 am with the lighting of lamp and inauguration song performed by the students of this college. The welcome address was delivered by Jamatia who mentioned the pressing need of awareness on impacts of drug abuse among all and explained the purpose of such programme. In his brief speech Dr. Abhijit Bhattacharya, Secretary, Teachers’ Council, BBM College informed the audience on different types of drugs and their related physical and psychological impacts on human being.
Prof. Dr. Arindam Datta unraveled many dark sides of drug abuses and also gave insightful info on processes of remedies and rehabilitation for drug addicts. He expressed his apprehension over the grim picture of increasing no of drug addicts in Tripura and called for massive drive against drugs among all classes of people. Prof. Datta’s words were further illustrated as Koyel Debbarma, showed the audience a detailed and graphic presentation on different cases of drug abusers recorded and also on various successful raids and confiscation of drugs during transport etc. she offered all sorts of cooperation for the informers as well as friends and family members of drug addicts.
Dr. Jiban Krishna Patra, Principal -in-Charge, BBM College presided over the whole programme and made a clarion call in his speech to the young students to say No to drugs. Dr. Anjana Jamatia, NSS Program Officer delivered the vote of thanks to give a befitting t end to the awareness programme.
