Tripura has made significant strides in resolving its decades-old insurgency issues, marking a new era of peace and development in the state. Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles ground on Sunday, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu highlighted key achievements, including the disbandment of insurgent groups and transformative development initiatives.
The Governor recounted the historic milestones achieved in 2023. On September 5, a Memorandum of Settlement was signed by the Union and Tripura governments with the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All-Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), officially disbanding these insurgent groups. This was followed by another landmark tripartite agreement signed on March 2, 2024, between the government of India, the Tripura government, and the Tipra Motha Party to address issues concerning the indigenous population.
Highlighting challenges, Reddy Nallu mentioned the devastating floods and landslides in August 2023, which claimed 38 lives and displaced over 3.7 lakh people. Despite these setbacks, the state made remarkable progress in agriculture. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Rs 32.93 crore was disbursed, and Rs 790.53 crore was credited to 2.76 lakh farmers through PM-KISAN. Additionally, 1,878 hectares of land were brought under oil palm cultivation, benefiting 1,861 farmers under the National Mission for Edible Oils.
In the education sector, the state included 27 schools under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India initiative and prioritized infrastructure development. In transportation, Rs 2,800 crore has been sanctioned for key road projects, including the Agartala Eastern Bypass and the Amtali-Tripura Sundari Temple road.
The Governor also praised the state for winning seven National Panchayat Awards in 2024 and for its plans to establish 111 additional model villages under the Chief Minister Model Village Scheme. To strengthen power infrastructure, Rs 1,800 crore has been allocated for the North Eastern Regional Power System Improvement Project, funded by the World Bank.
Tourism prospects are being enhanced with new projects aimed at attracting visitors. The Governor also announced the recruitment of 916 constables, 218 sub-inspectors, and 6,067 Special Executives to improve law and order while reiterating the state’s commitment to becoming drug-free and clean.
The 76th Republic Day celebrations in Tripura showcased these achievements, symbolizing a state poised for peace, development, and prosperity.
