Three accused in the Prasenjit Sarkar delivery executive death case have been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody. North Tripura Police assure justice as protests and public outrage continue in Dharmanagar.

Tripura Police have arrested three accused individuals and sent them to 14 days of judicial custody. The arrests mark a crucial step forward in the investigation into the tragic death of Prasenjit Sarkar, a young delivery worker whose alleged mistreatment at work led to intense public anger and demands for justice.

According to North Tripura District Police, the case has been registered under Case No. 122/2025. The three accused have been identified as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee, and Sourav Bhattacharjee. They were apprehended during an early morning operation on Thursday from Karimganj district in Assam, following coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies.

Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai confirmed that the accused were produced before the District Court later on Thursday. After hearing the submissions, the court ordered that all three accused be remanded to 14 days of judicial custody, reinforcing the seriousness of the charges and the ongoing probe.

Addressing the media, SP Rai appealed to the residents of Dharmanagar to remain calm and support the legal process. He assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice and are conducting a thorough and impartial investigation.

“We understand the public sentiment and share the grief of the victim’s family. We also want justice for Prasenjit Sarkar. However, people must stay alert, as certain miscreants are attempting to exploit this movement for personal gain. We urge everyone to trust the police and allow the law to take its course,” a senior police officer stated.

The death of Prasenjit Sarkar has deeply disturbed the local community. Sarkar, a delivery executive by profession, allegedly died by suicide after being physically assaulted at his workplace. His family members have claimed that the assault resulted in severe mental trauma, which ultimately pushed him toward taking the extreme step.

The incident triggered massive public backlash, both on the streets and across digital platforms. Protests were held in various parts of the district, with citizens demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for those responsible. Online campaigns, particularly under the hashtag #JusticeForPrasenjitSarkar, gained significant traction, amplifying calls for accountability.

On December 13, Sarkar’s family officially lodged a complaint with the police, accusing the suspects of harassment and assault. The complaint intensified pressure on authorities to act decisively, leading to the arrests announced this week.
