Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation (DSMF) hosts a major debate on reservation and merit at Agartala Town Hall, featuring Chief Minister Manik Saha, senior judges, legal experts, academicians and prominent debaters discussing social justice and quality.
The Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation (DSMF) will organise its fourth annual invitational debate programme on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Agartala Town Hall. The programme will commence at 5 pm and is expected to draw a wide cross-section of intellectuals, legal professionals, academicians and members of civil society.
The topic chosen for this year’s debate is ‘Reservation compromises quality and merit’, a subject that continues to evoke intense discussion and differing viewpoints across the country.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Minister Animesh Debbarma and the Chairman of the Tripura Human Rights Commission and former judge, Justice Arindam Lodh, will attend the programme as Guests of Honour. The entire debate session will be moderated by renowned senior cardiac surgeon from Kolkata and nationally acclaimed debater, Dr Kunal Sarkar.
Speaking in favour of the motion will be Biswanath Chakraborty of Kolkata, a noted debater and political analyst, Ipsita Ghosh, speaker and debater, Bhavani Biswas, poet and writer; Anima Debbarma, Senior Consultant, UNICEF, Agartala and Dr Mojahid Rahman, Principal, Rajarshi College of Education and Skill, Agartala.
Arguing against the motion will be Badsha Maitra of Kolkata, actor, speaker and debater, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Director and Founder of School of Science, Agartala, Dr Achinta Bhattacharjee, Director of Teresa Diagnostics Centre Private Limited, Agartala, Merelin Darlong, Assistant Professor, National Law University, Tripura and Kaushik Indu, advocate and editor of the Tripura Bar Association, Agartala.
The Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation primarily works to promote rational, logical and intellectually stimulating thought processes, with a special focus on legal awareness and public engagement on issues of social importance. The foundation was established in memory of late Advocate Dilip Sarkar (1938–2014), a distinguished criminal lawyer, former Public Prosecutor of the Agartala Bench of the Gauhati High Court, and the first Public Prosecutor of the Tripura High Court. His unwavering commitment to integrity, professional excellence and justice earned him deep respect across the legal fraternity and society at large.
The Foundation has extended a cordial invitation to members of the bar and bench, academicians, representatives of civil society, media professionals, students and all conscious citizens to attend and participate in this significant debate programme.
