Regular operations have resumed at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka.  He centre reopened for visa applications and related services on Thursday (December 18).

A day earlier, on Wednesday (December 17), the High Commission of India in Dhaka announced a temporary suspension of operations at the visa centre, according to a message issued by the centre.

The notice said that, in view of the prevailing security situation, IVAC referred to in the message as “IVAC–JFC” would remain closed from 2:00pm on Wednesday, and that all applicants scheduled to submit documents that day would be given new appointment slots at a later date.

Separately, New Delhi’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Delhi on Wednesday to convey India’s “deep concern” over what it described as a deteriorating security situation in Bangladesh.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka announced the suspension of visa centre operations around two hours earlier.

The closure on Wednesday came as a platform linked to several organisations associated with the July mass uprising, “July Oikya”, had announced a “March to the Indian High Commission” programme. The visa centre’s operations were halted from 2:00pm amid those developments.
