Tripura Minister Ratan Lal Nath claims regional parties fail to deliver development, highlighting BJP’s growth, tribal welfare initiatives, and political dominance ahead of TTAADC elections, emphasizing inclusive progress and strong governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a sharp political statement ahead of the upcoming tribal council elections, Ratan Lal Nath, Power Minister of Tripura, asserted that regional political parties often fail to sustain themselves due to their inability to deliver development, while emphasizing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains committed to inclusive growth and progress.
Addressing a courtyard meeting in Chakmapara under the Bodhjungnagar-Wakhinagar constituency, Nath said that voters, particularly from Janajati communities, have increasingly shown faith in national parties that focus on long-term development rather than short-term political gains. The meeting was organized as part of the campaign for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
Highlighting comparative political strength, Nath pointed out that the BJP, despite being established only 46 years ago, has become the largest political organization in terms of membership. He contrasted it with the Indian National Congress, which was formed over a century ago, and the Communist Party of China, stating that BJP’s 14 crore members reflect widespread public trust.
He further elaborated on BJP’s political footprint, noting its strong representation in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with governance in several states including Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura. According to him, the party’s guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” has resonated with citizens across all sections of society.
Focusing on development initiatives in the Wakhinagar area, Nath presented data to support his claims. Out of 763 families in the locality, 418 have received housing benefits over the past seven and a half years. Additionally, 453 families have been provided with free rice, while 362 individuals are beneficiaries of social pension schemes, which have also seen increased allocations under the current government.
The minister argued that regional parties often fail to retain support among Janajati communities because they lack a consistent development agenda. In contrast, he said the BJP government has prioritized the welfare and recognition of tribal populations. He cited national honors as an example, stating that out of 11 Padma Shri awardees from the state in recent years, nine belong to Janajati communities—an achievement he credited to the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Nath also referred to symbolic initiatives aimed at honoring historical figures, including the installation of statues and renaming of infrastructure after Maharaja Bir Bikram. He noted that the government has declared a public holiday on the Maharaja’s birth anniversary, describing it as a step toward recognizing the legacy of indigenous leaders.
Criticizing previous governments led by the Congress and the Left, Nath alleged that they had neglected Janajati communities during their tenure. He asserted that the current administration is actively implementing a series of development projects in tribal areas to address longstanding disparities.
