Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma narrowly escapes violent attack in Khowai district after miscreants vandalise property and hurl stones, raising serious concerns over political security, election-related tensions, and law enforcement preparedness in the region.

In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns over political security, Bikash Debbarma narrowly escaped an attack after miscreants allegedly targeted him during a visit to Khowai district on Sunday evening.

The incident took place in the Mungiakami area when the minister had gone to the residence of a party worker for a courtesy meeting and a small organisational programme. What began as a routine political visit quickly turned violent as news of his arrival spread across the locality, drawing a hostile crowd to the scene.

According to preliminary reports, a group of individuals, allegedly led by a local resident identified as Balen Debbarma, gathered outside the house and began pelting stones and other projectiles. Eyewitnesses claimed that the attackers used slingshots in an apparent attempt to directly target the minister, escalating the seriousness of the situation.

The sudden assault caused extensive damage to the property. Tin roofing was shattered, sections of the house were vandalised, and at least eight to ten motorcycles parked nearby were damaged. The violence forced the minister and his personal security officers to take shelter inside the house, where they remained effectively confined for nearly an hour while the mob continued its aggressive actions outside.

Speaking after being rescued, Debbarma termed the attack as deliberate and politically motivated. He alleged that the incident was part of a broader attempt to create unrest ahead of upcoming elections. Emphasising democratic values, he stated that every political party has the right to function peacefully and condemned the use of violence in political discourse.

Police personnel from the local Mungiakami police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the attack. Security forces managed to bring the situation under control after nearly an hour and safely evacuated the minister along with his associates. Officials confirmed that although the minister escaped without physical injuries, the attack has significantly heightened tension in the region.

Authorities also reported that a vehicle accompanying the minister was damaged during the violence. The incident, which occurred around 8 pm, has prompted an immediate tightening of security arrangements in the area. Law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
