Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlights the importance of art in creativity, cognitive growth, and professional development at a Mohanpur event, as scholarships and awards were distributed to young artists and senior contributors were honoured.
Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday highlighted the transformative role of art in nurturing creativity, emotional intelligence, and professional development while addressing a subdivision-level programme organised by the Tripura Art Society at Mohanpur.
Speaking to artists, students, and guardians, Nath said art should not be viewed merely as the use of colours, brushes, or visual techniques. Instead, he described art as a powerful expression of human thought and creativity that reflects the inner imagination and emotions of an individual. According to him, art acts as the language of the mind, enabling people to communicate ideas and feelings that words often fail to convey.
Emphasising the educational and psychological importance of artistic practice, the minister said regular engagement in art helps develop cognitive abilities, concentration, patience, and a refined sense of beauty. These qualities, he noted, are not only essential for creative excellence but also play a significant role in shaping disciplined and thoughtful professionals in various fields.
“Art trains the mind to observe deeply, think critically, and express meaningfully. These are qualities that benefit individuals far beyond the artistic sphere,” Nath said. He added that artists often develop a unique problem-solving mindset, which can be applied effectively in professional and academic environments.
The programme, organised by the Tripura Art Society, aimed to encourage young talent and honour contributions made by senior artists to the cultural landscape of the state. Scholarships and prizes were distributed to meritorious students who demonstrated exceptional skills in drawing and visual arts. Senior artists were also felicitated for their long-standing dedication to promoting art and culture.
Nath praised the initiative, stating that recognising artistic talent at an early stage motivates students to pursue creativity with confidence and discipline. He stressed that institutional support and social recognition are crucial for sustaining interest in art, particularly among young learners.
The minister also acknowledged the role of art organisations in preserving cultural heritage while simultaneously adapting to modern artistic expressions. He said such platforms provide emerging artists with exposure, mentorship, and opportunities to refine their skills.

Local artists present at the event shared their experiences and highlighted the challenges faced by creative professionals, including limited resources and lack of wider exposure. Guardians and educators welcomed the initiative, stating that such programmes help students balance academic learning with creative growth.
The event concluded with an exhibition showcasing student artwork, reflecting diverse themes, techniques, and perspectives. Organisers expressed hope that continued support from the government and society would help art flourish as both a cultural and professional pursuit in Tripura.
