Member of Parliament from West Tripura and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has extended prompt support to a woman from Tripura who sustained serious injuries while visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with her family.
The injured woman, Maitri Chakraborty, is an assistant professor at TMC and a resident of Renters’ Colony in Agartala. She suffered a head injury following an accident during her stay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. After the incident, she was rushed to a local hospital, where she is currently undergoing medical treatment.
At the time of the accident, MP Biplab Kumar Deb was also present in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as part of an official parliamentary delegation of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The matter came to his attention after one of the woman’s acquaintances reached out through social media, seeking urgent assistance for the injured professor.
Responding swiftly, Deb’s office immediately contacted the family members to assess the situation and coordinate support. Demonstrating personal involvement, the Member of Parliament visited the hospital on Sunday to check on Maitri Chakraborty’s health condition.
According to sources close to the family, Deb interacted with the attending doctors and discussed the nature of the injuries, ongoing treatment, and the need for advanced medical care. He also met the family members to reassure them of all possible assistance from his end.
Hospital authorities informed the MP that Maitri Chakraborty’s condition has shown signs of improvement. However, considering the seriousness of the head injury, doctors have advised further advanced treatment at a higher medical facility. Following these consultations, arrangements have been initiated to shift her to a better-equipped medical institution on Tuesday for specialized care.
Speaking about the incident, Biplab Kumar Deb stated that ensuring timely medical assistance for citizens from Tripura, especially during emergencies outside the state, remains a priority. He emphasized that immediate coordination with medical authorities and family members is essential to ensure proper treatment and recovery.
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of swift intervention by public representatives during medical emergencies involving citizens away from home. Family members of Maitri Chakraborty expressed gratitude for the timely support and intervention, stating that the MP’s involvement provided them with confidence and relief during a critical situation.
