Tripura Police and Gujarat Police rescued three minor girls from an alleged trafficking attempt after they were lured with fake job promises. Accused Mukesh Reang was detained, while investigators continue probing possible human trafficking links and interstate involvement under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A swift and well-coordinated operation by the Tripura Police and Gujarat Police successfully rescued three minor girls from an alleged human trafficking attempt after they were reportedly lured with false promises of employment outside the state. The prompt action led to the safe recovery of the girls and the detention of the accused, identified as Mukesh Reang, while police continue to investigate whether the case is linked to a larger interstate trafficking network.

According to police sources, the accused, Mukesh Reang, is a resident of Niyamjoy Para under Ganganagar Police Station in Tripura’s Dhalai district. Investigators alleged that he convinced three minor girls from the locality to accompany him by promising lucrative employment opportunities in Gujarat. Acting on these assurances, the girls reportedly left their homes with the accused on Monday.

Concern grew among family members after they failed to contact the girls for several hours. Suspecting foul play, the families approached Ganganagar Police Station and lodged a written complaint regarding the disappearance of the minors.

Based on the complaint, police registered Ganganagar Police Station Case No. 04/2026 under Sections 137(2) and 143(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and immediately launched an investigation.

Using technical surveillance and mobile phone location tracking, investigators quickly traced the movements of the accused and the three girls. Police found that they had first travelled from Agartala Airport to Kolkata before boarding another flight to Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

After confirming their location, Ganganagar Police immediately established contact with Amda Police Station in Ahmedabad and shared all available information. Gujarat Police responded without delay, launching a rescue operation within just thirty minutes of receiving the alert.

The coordinated operation resulted in the safe rescue of all three minor girls and the detention of Mukesh Reang before any further movement could take place. Officials said the rapid intervention prevented the minors from potentially falling into the hands of a larger criminal network involved in human trafficking.

However, investigators cautioned that it is still too early to conclusively establish trafficking as the definite motive behind the incident. Police stated that the investigation remains at a preliminary stage and several aspects of the case are being examined, including whether additional individuals or organised groups were involved.

Following confirmation of the rescue, a police team from Ganganagar Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Swapan Debbarma, departed for Gujarat to complete the necessary legal formalities. The accused and the rescued girls are expected to be produced before a local court in Gujarat on Wednesday, where Tripura Police will seek transit remand to bring them back to Dhalai district.

Once the accused is brought to Tripura, investigators plan to conduct detailed questioning to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged recruitment of the girls, identify possible accomplices, and examine whether similar incidents have occurred in the region.

Speaking on the successful operation, Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhalai district, Uttam Banik, said that close coordination between Tripura Police and Gujarat Police, supported by technology-driven investigation and prompt response, ensured the safe recovery of the three minors within a short period.

He emphasized that interstate cooperation among law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in preventing a potentially serious crime and reaffirmed the commitment of the police to protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.

Banik also appealed to parents and guardians to remain vigilant against individuals offering attractive employment opportunities outside the state without proper verification. He urged families to carefully verify the credentials of anyone promising jobs or a better future for young people, particularly minors, before allowing them to travel.

Police said the investigation will continue after the accused is brought back to Tripura, with officials working to determine whether the incident was an isolated case or part of a broader interstate human trafficking network. Until the probe is completed, authorities have assured that every possible effort will be made to ensure justice for the rescued girls and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
