Tripura govt makes singing of the full version of Vande Mataram followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana compulsory in all schools during morning assembly. The decision aims to promote patriotism, discipline, national unity and respect for India’s cultural heritage among students.

The Tripura government has made it compulsory for all schools across the state to begin their daily morning assemblies with the full version of the National Song Vande Mataram, followed immediately by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana. The decision will be implemented uniformly across government, government-aided, privately managed and recognised madrassa schools throughout the state.

The decision was announced through an official order issued by the Education (School) Department following the approval of the Tripura Council of Ministers. According to the order, the directive has been issued in compliance with guidelines circulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, regarding the observance, decorum and official rendition of the National Song.

The Union Home Ministry, through its directive dated January 28, 2026, laid down comprehensive guidelines for the respectful observance of Vande Mataram during formal, semi-formal and educational events. The guidelines emphasise maintaining dignity, discipline and proper protocol while rendering the National Song, with the objective of preserving its cultural significance and inspiring a sense of national pride among citizens.

In line with these instructions, the Tripura government has directed every educational institution in the state to incorporate the singing of the full version of Vande Mataram as the opening segment of the morning assembly. The rendition will be immediately followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana, thereby making both an integral part of the daily academic routine.

The order further specifies that whenever the National Song is sung or played, all students, teachers, faculty members and administrative staff must stand at attention as a mark of respect. Educational institutions have also been instructed to ensure proper decorum and adherence to the prescribed protocol during the daily assembly.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the initiative has been introduced to nurture patriotism, discipline and national unity among the younger generation. He stated that beginning each school day with the collective rendition of the National Song and the National Anthem would instil respect for India’s rich cultural heritage while encouraging students to develop a stronger sense of responsibility towards the nation.

“From now on, every school in the state will commence its daily academic activities with the collective rendition of the full version of the National Song Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting national integration and civic values through education. According to the Chief Minister, schools play a crucial role in shaping young minds, and incorporating these patriotic practices into the daily routine will help cultivate discipline, respect and a deeper understanding of the country’s constitutional values.

Education Department officials said all concerned educational institutions have been instructed to implement the new guidelines with immediate effect. School authorities are expected to ensure that the prescribed order of rendition is followed every day without exception.
