Six Tripura Civil Service officers have been promoted to the Indian Administrative Service under the Select List of 2025, strengthening the state’s administrative framework amid ongoing legal proceedings related to seniority and promotion matters in the Tripura cadre.
Six officers from the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) have been promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) under the Select List of 2025, marking an important step in strengthening the administrative structure of the state.
The appointments were announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India. The promotions were made under the provisions of the Indian Administrative Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.
According to the official notification issued from New Delhi on May 25, the promoted officers will be inducted into the IAS against vacancies determined by the Government of India. They will be allocated to the Tripura cadre and will remain on probation until further orders are issued by the competent authority.
The six officers who have been elevated to the IAS are Sarmistha Datta, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury, Akinchan Sarkar, Sumit Lodh and Rajesh Kumar Das.
Officials stated that the appointments were made after consultation with the Tripura government. However, the promotions will remain subject to the outcome of pending legal proceedings related to seniority and service matters connected with IAS promotions in the state cadre.
The notification mentioned that a seniority-related matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court, while another case concerning IAS promotion in the Tripura cadre is under consideration before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Guwahati Bench.
Despite the legal proceedings, the latest appointments are being viewed as a positive administrative development for Tripura. The induction of six experienced officers into the IAS is expected to improve governance, strengthen policy implementation and enhance coordination across various government departments in the state.
