Tripura will host the fourth National Lok Adalat on December 13 with 60 benches hearing over 34,700 cases. The initiative aims to offer quick, low-cost justice through settlement of motor accident claims, bank disputes, criminal cases and civil matters.
Tripura is set to conduct the fourth National Lok Adalat of the year on Saturday, December 13, with preparations completed across the state to handle thousands of cases in a single-day dispute resolution effort. The state-wide Adalat will be held at the Tripura High Court, along with all district and sub-divisional court complexes, officials said.
According to the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), a total of 60 benches have been formed to hear 34,709 cases, comprising both pending and pre-litigation matters. Of these, 29,093 are pending cases, while 5,616 are pre-litigation disputes expected to be resolved amicably with the consent of all parties.
The wide range of cases listed for settlement reflects the ongoing effort to reduce the burden on courts and promote accessible justice. Among the cases to be taken up are 337 motor accident compensation claims, 226 matrimonial disputes, 4,255 bank loan recovery cases, and 1,361 BSNL bill-related matters. In addition, 28,419 compoundable criminal cases under various Acts—including the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act and Excise Act—have been included for settlement. The Adalat will also hear 40 cheque bounce cases, 49 civil suits, and one land acquisition case.
At the Tripura High Court, one special bench has been designated to hear 23 cases, focusing on faster disposal through compromise and mutual agreement.
Officials informed that notices have already been issued to all concerned litigants to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings. Justice T. Amarnath Goud, Executive Chairman of TSLSA, has issued detailed instructions to streamline coordination among judicial officers, conciliators and lawyers for effective functioning of the National Lok Adalat.
TSLSA Member Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury urged the public to make use of this opportunity to settle disputes quickly and free of cost. She emphasized that the Lok Adalat mechanism remains one of the most efficient platforms for reducing litigation load and ensuring justice without delays.
