Jatrapur Police Station seized 44 kg of dry cannabis in a midnight anti-narcotics raid at Monai Pathar ADC Village. The operation, led by OC Siddhi Kantha Bardhan, highlights intensified crackdowns on drug trafficking under the NDPS Act.

Jatrapur Police Station carried out a well-coordinated midnight operation on Tuesday, seizing 44 kilograms of dry cannabis from a residence in Monai Pathar ADC Village under the Sonamura subdivision. The successful raid has once again brought attention to the heightened surveillance and assertive anti-drug strategy enforced by the current Officer-in-Charge (OC), Siddhi Kantha Bardhan.

Over the past year, Jatrapur Police Station has emerged as one of the most proactive units in the region in terms of combating illegal drug trafficking. Local residents acknowledge that such an intense level of policing had not been witnessed in the area for several years. Since OC Bardhan’s arrival, the frequency and effectiveness of anti-narcotics drives have increased significantly, resulting in a more secure and disciplined environment.

According to police sources, a reliable secret input was received late Tuesday night regarding a large quantity of cannabis stored at the home of Samir Baidya, a known narcotics hoarder and habitual drug peddler. Acting swiftly, OC Bardhan, accompanied by a team of police personnel and TSR jawans, launched an immediate operation and reached the location around midnight.

However, sensing the police presence, the accused managed to escape moments before officers entered the premises. A thorough search of the house led to the discovery of two large plastic drums filled with dry cannabis. OC Bardhan confirmed that the traffickers had recently dug the contraband out from an underground storage space, preparing it for transportation to another location.

The seized cannabis, weighing approximately 44 kilograms, was brought back to Jatrapur Police Station. The market value of the recovered narcotics is estimated to be around ₹1.5 lakh. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and police have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend Samir Baidya, who remains absconding.
