Tripura CM Manik Saha affirmed that the BJP government prioritises development and peace, warning that lawbreakers will face strict punishment. Addressing the July 27 Asharambari violence allegedly by TMP workers, Saha emphasised zero tolerance for political unrest.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday sent out a strong message to his political ally Tipra Motha Party (TMP) while asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state is firmly committed to development, welfare, and the rule of law. He made it clear that anyone attempting to disrupt peace and unleash violence would face strict consequences, regardless of political affiliation.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at East Takchaya in Asharambari, Khowai district, organised on the occasion of the 125th edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
“I have given a free hand to the police to take appropriate action against those who unleash violence and take the law into their own hands. Those who break the law will be given proper punishment; nobody will be spared,” CM Saha said, sending a stern warning to political opponents and unruly elements.
Condemnation of July 27 Violence
Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, expressed deep anguish over the July 27 attack on BJP workers in Asharambari during a Mann Ki Baat programme. According to reports, workers of the TMP allegedly attacked BJP functionaries gathered for the event, leaving nine party karyakartas injured.

Calling the incident “a dark chapter that has defamed Tripura across the nation,” Saha said that such acts of violence are unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly. He emphasised that the police have been working independently, without political interference, to protect democratic rights and ensure law and order.
To demonstrate the BJP’s resilience, the Chief Minister personally attended the Mann Ki Baat programme at the same Asharambari venue on August 31. “This was our way of showing that we will not be cowed down by violence. During the 35 years of Left rule and five years of Congress governance, violent politics was allowed to flourish. Our government is determined to end this culture once and for all,” he declared.
A Message to the Ally TMP
The Chief Minister’s remarks carried an unmistakable warning for the TMP, led by former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma. Despite being a partner in the BJP-led government and holding two ministerial posts, TMP workers have been accused of indulging in political violence.
Saha’s speech, therefore, highlighted the ruling BJP’s firm stance that law and order cannot be compromised for the sake of coalition politics. The message comes at a critical time, with the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approaching, where both BJP and TMP will play decisive roles.
Criticism of Opposition Parties
In his address, CM Saha also condemned the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders in Bihar for allegedly making offensive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother.
“A chaiwala (tea-seller) and a man from a humble background became the Prime Minister. This truth has never been accepted by Congress, RJD, and other opposition parties. However, people across the nation will not tolerate such abusive and disrespectful comments,” Saha said.
Emphasis on Development and Welfare
Alongside law and order, Saha highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of tribal communities in Tripura. He noted that multiple schemes and initiatives are underway to preserve tribal culture and traditions, while simultaneously enhancing living standards.
“The BJP government is working tirelessly to ensure all-round development of every community, including our Janajati brothers and sisters. Development, welfare, and peace are at the core of our governance model,” the Chief Minister stated.
He stressed that Mann Ki Baat itself is a non-political initiative that celebrates achievements of individuals, organisations, and communities across the country, rather than serving as a platform for partisan politics.
Presence of BJP Leaders
The event was attended by several state BJP leaders, including General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, a prominent tribal face of the party. The gathering marked yet another attempt by the BJP to connect with grassroots communities and strengthen its organisational presence ahead of key political contests in the state.

By underscoring both development and strict law enforcement, CM Saha has sought to position the BJP as a party of governance, peace, and progress in Tripura, while making it clear that no one, not even allies, will be allowed to disrupt democratic processes through violence.
