Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha to inaugurate Free Wi-Fi in 11 Government Degree Colleges and launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojona (MYYY) 2024–25, advancing digital learning and youth empowerment across the state’s higher education institutions.

In a major push toward digital education and youth empowerment, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate free Wi-Fi facilities in 11 Government Degree Colleges on Tuesday. The event, scheduled to take place at the Government College of Art & Craft, Agartala, marks the second phase of the state’s ambitious plan to connect higher education institutions through high-speed internet.

Alongside this, Dr. Saha will also launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojona (MYYY) for 2024–25, a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing digital access and connectivity for college students. The MYYY scheme provides financial assistance and digital tools to students, ensuring that every youth in the state can access online education and information resources seamlessly.

Empowering Education through Digital Connectivity

The introduction of free Wi-Fi services in government colleges is part of the state’s larger vision to promote digital inclusion and strengthen the academic environment. By providing a secure and reliable internet network within campuses, the government seeks to enable students to access study materials, online classes, e-learning platforms, and career-related resources with ease.

IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy shared the news on social media, praising the Directorate of Information Technology for their continued efforts in implementing this initiative. He highlighted that the digital transformation of educational institutions reflects the state government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and preparing students for the demands of the modern world.

“Connectivity is the foundation of progress. With free Wi-Fi in colleges, we are empowering our youth to learn, innovate, and connect with global opportunities,” the minister said.

Phase 2 Expansion after Successful First Phase

This initiative follows the successful completion of Phase 1, during which free Wi-Fi facilities were introduced in 19 Government Degree Colleges across Tripura on October 21, 2023. The second phase adds another 11 colleges to the network, extending the total number of digitally connected government colleges to 30.

According to official sources, the project’s implementation has been guided by robust planning, with each college equipped with high-speed internet routers, campus-wide access points, and a secure login system to ensure safe browsing and data protection. The network aims to cover classrooms, libraries, administrative offices, and student activity zones.

A Step Toward Digital Tripura

Officials noted that this digital initiative aligns with both Digital India and Digital Tripura missions, which seek to expand the reach of technology into the education sector. The government envisions a learning ecosystem where students can engage in online research, virtual lectures, and digital innovation without connectivity barriers.

The introduction of the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojona (MYYY) for 2024–25 also complements this goal. The scheme helps college students purchase smartphones or internet-enabled devices by providing financial assistance, ensuring that technology becomes an integral part of their educational experience.

By combining Wi-Fi accessibility and device support, the state aims to create a digitally empowered generation capable of competing in national and international platforms.

Student-Centric Approach to Education

Educationists and student representatives have welcomed the initiative, calling it a timely move in a world where digital skills have become indispensable. With the pandemic having shifted much of education to online and hybrid modes, the presence of reliable Wi-Fi on campuses is expected to enhance learning efficiency and inclusivity.

“Access to free and secure internet is no longer a luxury — it’s a necessity for modern education,” said a faculty member from one of the participating colleges. “This initiative will greatly help students from rural and low-income backgrounds who often struggle with data costs.”

Looking Ahead

The state government’s long-term goal is to extend free Wi-Fi coverage to every higher educational institution in Tripura, including technical colleges and universities. Continuous monitoring and feedback systems are being established to ensure the network’s stability and user satisfaction.
