Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasizes ethics-based education, women’s safety, cultural preservation, and major infrastructure projects while inaugurating a new school building and laying the foundation for a key bridge in Unakoti district.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday underscored the importance of ethics-based education, stating that academic excellence must go hand in hand with moral values to build responsible, humane and nation-oriented citizens. Addressing a public programme in the Fatikroy Assembly constituency of Unakoti district, the Chief Minister said education should ultimately serve the welfare of society and the country.
Dr. Saha made these remarks while inaugurating the newly constructed two-storey building of P.M.-SHRI Hajibari Class XII School, describing the occasion as a milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure. He said that values-driven education enables students to grow not only intellectually but also as compassionate human beings.
“Only when education is guided by ethics and moral values can students develop into responsible citizens. Knowledge must be used for social good and national progress,” the Chief Minister said.

Before attending the school programme, Dr. Saha laid the foundation stone for a new bridge connecting Saidarpar and Sardapalli in the Kumarghat area over the Manu River. The bridge, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.26 crore, is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region.
According to the Chief Minister, nearly 6,000 to 7,000 residents will directly benefit from the bridge once completed. He said farmers in particular will gain easier access to markets, enabling them to transport agricultural produce smoothly to Kumarghat market and nearby commercial hubs.
“The bridge will also improve access to Kumarghat Railway Station, enhancing overall connectivity and easing daily travel for local residents,” Dr. Saha said, adding that improved infrastructure plays a crucial role in boosting rural livelihoods and regional economic growth.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Sixth Milan Mela-2026, a four-day cultural event organised on the Hajibari School premises. The mela aims to promote cultural harmony and community participation, reflecting Tripura’s long-standing tradition of unity in diversity.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives to preserve indigenous heritage, Dr. Saha said Tripura has earned national recognition for maintaining social harmony among diverse communities. He said the government is working on multiple fronts to preserve, protect and promote the cultural traditions of Janajati communities.
The Chief Minister noted that steps are being taken to restore the dignity and traditional role of Samajpatis by providing them with honorariums, an initiative that he said was neglected by previous governments.

Speaking on women’s safety, Dr. Saha claimed that Tripura has witnessed a significant decline in crime rates in recent years. He said women in the state can now move freely and without fear, even during late hours.
“This is real development. Women’s safety is a true indicator of a progressive society,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Dr. Saha further said that technology is being actively integrated into the education system to make learning more accessible and student-centric. He highlighted the introduction of Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL) under the National Education Policy, aimed at tailoring education to individual learning needs.
“Education is a journey from darkness to light. We want healthy competition among schools and continuous improvement in teaching standards,” he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted major advancements in higher education infrastructure across the state. He said Tripura now hosts several government and private universities, increased medical college seats, and a new medical college coming up in Ambassa. Institutions such as a Forensic University and a Law University have also been established, reducing the need for students to pursue higher education outside the state.
Dr. Saha asserted that despite criticism from certain quarters, the state government remains committed to inclusive development, infrastructure expansion, cultural preservation and educational reform.
