Tripura Cabinet approves new government jobs, free UPSC and SSC coaching centres, hostel stipend hike, and launches Nari Adalat pilot project in 10 gram panchayats to strengthen women’s justice and youth employment opportunities across the state.

The State Cabinet has approved multiple key decisions, including fresh government recruitment, free competitive exam coaching centres and the launch of a pilot “Nari Adalat” scheme across selected gram panchayats.

Announcing the decisions at a press conference held at the Secretariat, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated that the Cabinet has cleared recruitment for several vacant posts in the Revenue and Health departments, alongside welfare initiatives for students and women.

Fresh Government Recruitment in Revenue and Health Departments

Under the Revenue Department, six posts of Assistant Survey Officer and ten posts of Revenue Inspector will be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission. The recruitment will follow standard competitive procedures to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.

In addition, 32 Junior Driver posts under the Health and Family Welfare Department have also been approved. The selection process for these posts will be conducted directly through the Transport Department.

The Cabinet’s move is expected to strengthen administrative efficiency in land management and public health services while also providing employment opportunities to eligible candidates across the state.

Hostel Stipend Increased for Scheduled Caste Students

In a major relief measure for students from economically weaker sections, the Cabinet approved an increase in the daily stipend for students residing in hostels under the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. The stipend has been raised from ₹80 to ₹100 per day.

A total of 712 students residing in 33 government-run boys’ hostels, 22 girls’ hostels and one NGO-run hostel will benefit from the enhanced financial assistance. The decision is aimed at addressing rising living costs and improving residential facilities for marginalized students pursuing their education.

Officials stated that the hike reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development and educational empowerment.

Free Coaching Centres for National-Level Competitive Exams

The Cabinet also gave formal approval for the establishment of free coaching centres to help students prepare for national-level competitive examinations. The initiative was earlier announced in the 2025–26 Budget and will now be implemented from the upcoming academic session under the Higher Education Department.

A dedicated coaching centre for the Union Public Service Commission examinations will be set up at the new building of Bir Chandra State Central Library in Agartala. The UPSC coaching programme will run for 12 months, offering 20 hours of classes per week.

Additionally, coaching for SSC, RRB and IBPS examinations will be introduced at Government Degree College Ambassa and Netaji Subhash Government College. These courses will span six months with 24 hours of classes per week.

Each coaching centre will accommodate a maximum of 100 students. Selection will be strictly merit-based, and only permanent residents of the state will be eligible. The initiative is expected to enhance the competitiveness of local aspirants in national recruitment examinations and reduce dependency on costly private coaching institutions.

Nari Adalat Pilot Project to Strengthen Women’s Justice

In a landmark step toward grassroots women’s justice, the Cabinet approved the implementation of the “Nari Adalat” scheme as a pilot project in 10 gram panchayats. The programme has been introduced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The pilot project will be rolled out in selected panchayats across multiple districts, including Fulbari in North Tripura, Srirampur in Unakoti, West Sonatala in Khowai, Lembucherra in West Tripura, Khedabari in Sepahijala, Tepania in Gomati, Vivekananda Palli in South Tripura, and Singanala, Halahali and North Halahali in Dhalai district.

The scheme will be implemented by the Social Welfare and Social Education Department. Under the project, Nari Adalat committees comprising up to nine socially recognized members — including retired teachers, social workers and community leaders — will be formed in each selected panchayat.

According to the Minister, these forums will have the authority to adjudicate cases related to domestic violence, physical abuse and other forms of harassment against women. They will function in a manner similar to arbitration mechanisms at the village level and may recommend police intervention where necessary.

The primary objective of the Nari Adalat initiative is to provide an accessible platform for women who may feel hesitant to approach formal law enforcement agencies. By decentralizing dispute resolution and encouraging community-based intervention, the government aims to ensure quicker and more sensitive handling of gender-related grievances.

Strengthening Governance and Social Support

The combined decisions reflect a broader policy focus on employment generation, educational advancement and women’s empowerment. From expanding government recruitment and increasing student stipends to establishing free coaching infrastructure and launching localized justice forums, the Cabinet’s approvals signal a multi-dimensional governance approach.
