Tripura State Load Dispatch Centre becomes Northeast India’s first to secure ISO/IEC 27001:2022 cyber security certification, strengthening power grid protection, digital resilience, and critical infrastructure security under Central Electricity Authority guidelines.
Tripura’s power sector has reached a significant milestone with the Tripura State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) becoming the only institution in Northeast India to receive the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Cyber Security Certification. The achievement highlights the state’s commitment to safeguarding critical power infrastructure against emerging cyber threats and aligns Tripura with global cyber security standards.
The landmark accomplishment was formally announced by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the 22nd Foundation Day celebration of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) held in Agartala. Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the certification reflects Tripura’s proactive approach to digital security and power system resilience.
He emphasized that the certification follows strict guidelines issued by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), which has made cyber security certification mandatory for all State Load Dispatch Centres across India. The directive aims to protect the national power grid and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in an era of rising cyber risks targeting critical infrastructure.
The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification was awarded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, after Tripura SLDC successfully addressed all vulnerabilities identified during a STQC-led system surveillance audit. These corrective measures included the implementation of biometric access controls, advanced user identity and access management systems, intelligent threat detection mechanisms, VESDA-based smoke detection, and enhanced physical security arrangements.
According to officials, the certification confirms that Tripura SLDC now operates under a robust information security management framework capable of preventing, detecting, and responding to cyber incidents in real time. This is considered a crucial step in ensuring grid stability and protecting sensitive operational data from unauthorized access or cyber sabotage.
Reflecting on Tripura’s power sector journey, Minister Nath noted that while TSECL was formally established in 2004, the state’s electricity history dates back to 1937, when power generation began under royal rule using diesel engines. Since 2005, the corporation has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a modern, technology-driven utility.
The growth trajectory of TSECL is evident from the surge in electricity consumers, which has increased from 3.9 lakh in 2005 to nearly 15.7 lakh today. This expansion has been supported by massive infrastructure development, including the establishment of 132 kV and 33 kV substations, new transmission lines, and improved distribution networks across urban and rural areas.
Describing power as the “foundation of development,” the Minister highlighted several reforms that have modernized electricity services in Tripura. These include online load shedding management systems, smart meter deployment, transparent billing processes, and seamless digital payment facilities. He added that 24×7 call centers, rapid fault repair services, and real-time monitoring have significantly enhanced consumer satisfaction.
The Minister also outlined ambitious future plans to meet the state’s growing power demand. Key projects include a 120 MW combined cycle gas-based power project at Rokhia, restoration of the Gomati hydro power station, and the development of an 800 MW pump storage project to support renewable energy integration.
In addition, Tripura is focusing strongly on solar energy expansion, with plans to install solar power systems in hospitals, educational institutions, and government buildings. Urban infrastructure upgrades are also on the agenda, including underground cabling in the Agartala Municipal area, live line maintenance to reduce outages, and drone-based fault detection systems for faster response times.

During the event, Minister Nath marked the 22nd Foundation Day of TSECL as a proud milestone symbolizing more than two decades of dedicated service. He praised the commitment of engineers, officers, employees, and field workers who have played a vital role in strengthening Tripura’s power infrastructure and supporting the state’s social and economic development.
The celebration was attended by Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman Hemant Verma, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, and several senior officials and stakeholders from the power sector.
With the achievement of international cyber security certification, Tripura SLDC has set a new benchmark for digital resilience in the Northeast, reinforcing the state’s position as a forward-looking leader in secure and sustainable power management.
