The KTDS Police Training Academy in Tripura has been honored with the “Union Home Minister’s Trophy” for being the best training institution in the category of Constabulary field for the year 2021-22. The academy is located in Narsinghar and provides basic training in various areas of policing, law and order, and crime prevention to uniformed personnel, including IPS and TPS probationers.

It also provides in-service training to officers from various services and hosts cadets and officers from other parts of the country. The award was given during the tenure of Dilip Ray as the academy’s principal, who is now posted as commandant of the Counter Insurgency & Anti-Terrorist School in Dhalai.

The academy was named after the former DGP of Tripura, Kumar Trishul Dhari Singh. In addition to KTDS, three other police training academies in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh have also received the Union Home Minister’s Trophy for the best police training institutes at the zonal and national levels.

The national level winners will receive Rs. 20 lakh each, while the zonal level winners will receive Rs. 2 lakh each.

The news came as a pleasant surprise for the Tripura police which had earlier also received President’s Colours for its extraordinary success in combating blood spilling militancy in the state.  The state police its paramilitary arm Tripura State Rifles with the help of central forces brought an end to the militancy in a perfect combination of people’s support, motivation and  armed engagements. Unlike the Punjab, in Tripura during the decades old militancy there were virtually zero human right abuse complaints against the state forces. This earned the expression ‘Tripura Model’.
