The process of relocating the 6,302 Bru families who were displaced from Mizoram is currently underway in 11 locations in the state.

The Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department, Puneet Agarwal, said the process is being executed with right earnest and in full swing. 

The Brus , displaced from Mizoram following a massive communal flare up in 1997 and took shelter in six camps in North Tripura, are being rehabilitated in Tripura in the wake of a quadripartite agreement was signed between the Centre, Government of Tripura, Government of Mizoram, and Bru leaders.

Agarwal said, as of now, the construction of 3,249 houses has been completed, and each Bru family has been given Rs. 1.50 lakh in three instalments for house construction. The families have also been provided with necessary documents like RoR, Ration Cards, Aadhar Cards, ST Certificates, PRTC, MGNREGA Job Cards, and Voter Cards.

The Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department has also informed the media that, 800 Aapda Mitras have been trained for disaster management, and Ham Radio stations and three repeater stations have been introduced at Gomati, Dhalai, and West Tripura districts. The Principal Secretary also mentioned the passing of ‘The Indian Stamp (Tripura 6th amendment) 2023 Bill’ during the Assembly Session, which aims to empower women. The officials present at the press conference included the Special Secretary of the Revenue Department, the Director of Land Records and Settlement department, and the State Project Officer of Disaster Management. The Principal Secretary also spoke about the introduction of online services in the Land Records and Settlement department.
