The Tripura government on Wednesday distributed 2,806 offer letters during a grand event held at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, which was attended virtually by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The job offers were issued under 37 different government departments, covering 2,437 positions for Multi-Tasking Staff (Group D) and 369 positions for Pharmacists and Lab Technicians. The event marked a significant step towards employment generation in the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the efforts of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for implementing a transparent recruitment process based on merit. He acknowledged the state's commitment to fair hiring practices and commended the Chief Minister for ensuring that job opportunities reach deserving candidates without political bias. Shah also extended his congratulations to the successful candidates, stating that they were now integral to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of "Viksit Tripura, Viksit Bharat Abhiyan." He emphasized that under Modi’s leadership, the northeastern region, including Tripura, was witnessing rapid development and progress.
The Chief Minister was joined at the event by several Cabinet Ministers, including Pranajit Singha Roy, Ratan Lal Nath, Sushanta Chowdhury, Santana Chakma, Shukla Charan Noatia, Tinku Roy, Bikas Debbarma, and Sudhangshu Das. During the program, nine selected individuals were handed their offer letters on stage as a symbolic gesture of the government’s commitment to providing employment. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha reaffirmed that his government prioritizes merit in recruitment and maintains a transparent selection policy, ensuring that all eligible candidates receive job opportunities based on their qualifications rather than political influence.
Dr. Saha highlighted the state government's various initiatives aimed at generating employment and providing career opportunities to the unemployed youth of Tripura. He stressed that ongoing recruitment processes were being conducted through Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), and Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), ensuring that no candidate had to seek judicial intervention to secure employment. Reflecting on the past, he noted that job seekers had to approach courts for justice due to irregularities in recruitment over the previous 35 years. He assured the public that the current government remains committed to selecting the most qualified and talented individuals without considering their political affiliations.
Providing further details, the Chief Minister stated that, through JRBT, approximately 1,980 individuals were recruited in 2023 into Group C positions, including Agriculture Assistants and other roles across various government departments. He revealed that between 2018 and 2024, a total of 16,411 individuals had been recruited into government service, while an additional 5,771 individuals were hired on a contractual or outsourcing basis. Dr. Saha indicated that more recruitments were in the pipeline and that the government would continue to expand employment opportunities.
Dr. Saha also cited data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, revealing that Tripura’s unemployment rate was higher than the national average in 2018-19. However, over the past four years, the state has successfully reduced unemployment, bringing it below the national average. He stated that in the financial year 2023-24, Tripura’s unemployment rate stood at 1.7%, compared to the national average of 3.2%.
He further emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been leading the country towards a corruption-free administration, and the Tripura government is aligning its policies with this vision. He reiterated the government’s dedication to fair governance and ensuring that employment opportunities reach the deserving candidates transparently and efficiently.
