Majestic Pushpabanta Palace which had served as the Raj Bhawan till some years ago, would now be converted into an international standard Museum cum cultural where state’s cultural heritage would be showcased in a befitting and professional manner..

Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury who had visited the Palace on Wednesday said, the government had already sanctioned Rs. 40.13 crore for the Museum and Cultural Centre.

The Museum would be climate controlled and CCTV-monitored. The minister inspected the drawing and design of the proposed works and interacted with the officials concerned and asked them to maintain quality of the retrofitting works.

He said that retrofitting works in the palace had already started from October last year. And if everything goes as prepared then the proposed Museum and Cultural Centre would be ready by 2025. The new facility would include administrative building, photo galleries, library and film and video gallery.

”The state government has taken all efforts to showcase the state’s cultural heritage and preserve the memories of the royal era. The Museum would showcase rich heritage of NE states along with fine arts of Southeast Asia and contemporary photography, national and international archives.”, Chowdhury added.

“It would not only attract the tourists but also the help increase the state’s revenue collection “

It may be mentioned here that Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore who had a very close relation with the Tripura Royal family stayed in the palace during his Tripura visit.

The palace was built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya in 1871.
