Rajib Bhattacharjee visits violence-hit Tripura areas after TTAADC polls, assures safety and support to displaced BJP workers, criticises unrest, and calls for peace, unity, and restoration of normal life amid ongoing political tensions.
Post-poll unrest in Tripura’s tribal council areas has triggered political concern, with senior leaders stepping in to assess the ground situation and reassure displaced workers. The developments follow the sweeping victory of Tipra Motha in the 2026 TTAADC elections, after which multiple incidents of violence were reported across different regions.
Tripura BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee on Monday visited several violence-affected locations to interact directly with party workers who have allegedly borne the brunt of the unrest. His visit began at Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, where a significant number of BJP supporters have taken refuge, citing fear and insecurity in returning to their homes.
According to party sources, many workers have been displaced due to intimidation and threats that surfaced shortly after the election results were declared. During his visit, Bhattacharjee patiently listened to their grievances. However, the interaction briefly turned tense when some workers, overwhelmed by frustration and prolonged distress, displayed aggressive reactions. The situation was quickly brought under control by accompanying leaders.
Party insiders suggested that the emotional outburst stemmed from accumulated resentment, worsened by the fact that many displaced workers had to remain away from their families during Garia Puja, one of the most significant festivals for Tripura’s tribal communities.
Addressing reporters after the visit, Bhattacharjee strongly condemned the violence, questioning the contradiction between political messaging and ground realities. He criticized the use of “Thansa,” a term denoting unity, in political rhetoric while incidents of violence were simultaneously unfolding. He reiterated that his party remains committed to the welfare and development of indigenous communities in the state.
Highlighting the scale of the crisis, Bhattacharjee stated that hundreds of party workers have been forced to flee their homes. He emphasized that the state leadership is actively coordinating efforts to restore normalcy. He added that although Chief Minister Manik Saha is currently engaged in campaigning in West Bengal, he remains in constant communication regarding the situation.
Bhattacharjee also mentioned that state ministers, including Tinku Roy and Bikash Debbarma, are actively visiting affected areas and engaging with victims. He assured that steps are being taken to facilitate the safe return of displaced workers and restore confidence among affected communities.
Responding to concerns about administrative lapses despite the deployment of central forces like the CRPF and state police, Bhattacharjee defended the actions of law enforcement agencies. He stated that their timely intervention prevented potential casualties and enabled the safe evacuation of vulnerable individuals. He confirmed that several arrests have been made in connection with the violence but expressed concern that some detained individuals were later seen participating in road blockades.
Reaffirming his commitment to party workers, Bhattacharjee urged them to remain confident and assured them that the government is closely monitoring the situation. He stressed that restoring peace and ensuring the safe return of displaced individuals remains the top priority.
During his tour, Bhattacharjee also visited the residence of BJP leader Abhijit Debbarma, who had contested the ADC elections from the Jirania constituency but was unsuccessful. His residence reportedly came under repeated attacks following the election results.
The BJP leader further extended his visit to violence-affected areas in Krishnapur and Teliamura under Khowai district. Interacting with local residents and party workers, he emphasized the need for peace and unity across communities.
He stated that electoral outcomes are a part of democratic processes, but violence undermines the very foundation of democracy. Calling for collective participation in building a stronger Tripura, he highlighted that all communities—tribal and non-tribal, irrespective of religion—must work together toward development.

On the question of BJP’s alliance with Tipra Motha, Bhattacharjee acknowledged the partnership, noting that such alliances come with mutual responsibilities. He stressed the importance of adhering to the code of conduct expected between alliance partners to maintain trust and stability.
As tensions persist in certain pockets, political observers note that the coming days will be crucial in determining how effectively peace and normalcy can be restored across the affected regions.
