Actress Radhikka Madan reveals her childhood dream of becoming a dancer and introducing tap dancing in India. She opens up about her unusual audition story, rise in television with Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, and her successful transition to Bollywood, now set to star in Subedaar with Anil Kapoor.

In a candid and heartfelt conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan, actress Radhikka Madan opened up about her early aspirations, her journey into the entertainment industry, and the experiences that shaped her. The interaction took place at Radhikka’s Mumbai residence, where she hosted Farah for a vlog shoot that delved deep into the lesser-known facets of her life.

Known for her versatile performances in films like Angrezi Medium and Shiddat, Radhikka revealed that acting was never her initial goal. In fact, her first love was dance. “I am trained in Jazz, I am trained in ballet, I am trained in Modern dance. I wanted to introduce tap dancing in India. The way you feel on stage — you don’t see anybody,” she said passionately, highlighting her deep connection with the performing arts.

Her desire to bring tap dancing to India was more than just a fleeting dream. It reflected her commitment to her craft and her vision to pioneer something new in the Indian dance scene. Unfortunately, destiny had other plans. A twist of fate led her from the dance floor to the television screen — a transition that would ultimately launch her successful acting career.

Radhikka fondly recalled the unusual circumstances surrounding her first audition. While she was in Delhi, a casting person reached out to her via a direct message about an audition opportunity. But the location seemed dubious, and her instincts, shaped by binge-watching the crime show Crime Patrol, kicked in.

“The audition was taking place at a rather shady location, and at that time, I used to watch a lot of Crime Patrol. So I went with two of my friends, carrying hockey sticks,” she recounted, laughing. “I told my friends that I’ll go in first, and you follow me from behind — and the next day, we’ll be all over the front page of the newspaper.”

However, the audition turned out to be genuine. “When I entered, I realised there was an actual audition going on for a television show. I got all awkward and was about to leave, but they called my name,” she added.

That audition led to her landing the lead role in the popular TV serial Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, where she starred opposite Shakti Arora. The show ran from 2014 to 2016 and became one of the top-rated programs on Colors TV. Radhikka admitted that she was not formally trained in acting and learned everything she knows about the craft while working on the show.

“I felt extremely safe in front of the camera — similar to what I used to feel on stage as a dancer,” she said, explaining how performing has always been her comfort zone, regardless of the medium.

After making her mark in television, Radhikka transitioned to films, showcasing her acting prowess in critically acclaimed projects. In Angrezi Medium, she played the daughter of the late Irrfan Khan, and her role in Shiddat further cemented her status as a promising talent in Bollywood.

Looking ahead, Radhikka is set to appear alongside veteran actor Anil Kapoor in the upcoming film Subedaar, directed by Suresh Triveni. The film is expected to showcase yet another dimension of her evolving talent.
