Minister for Information and Technology, Pranajit Singha Roy, unveiled the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojna for the year 2023-24 at IT Bhawan, Agartala on Friday. The scheme is designed to provide smartphones to students, with the overarching goal of facilitating digital access for youths.
The initiative, launched in the presence of Secretary Kiran Gitte and other dignitaries, focuses on providing a reimbursement grant for the purchase of smartphones. Minister Singha Roy emphasized the transparency of data among beneficiaries through the Beneficiary Management (BMS) portal, which will handle application submission, verification, approval, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) processes for the scheme.
Underlining the commitment to educational empowerment, the government had previously decided on December 1 to allocate 19,796 smartphones to final-year college students under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogajog Yojana, incurring an expenditure of Rs. 9.89 crore. Notably, 28,745 students had already received smartphones under this scheme.
Minister Singha Roy announced that students in their final year across all government educational institutions in the state could apply for the scheme until January 15, 2024. Interested students must submit their applications through the BSMS portal (https://bms.tripura.gov.in/) to avail themselves of the smartphone purchasing benefit. The government is set to provide Rs. 5,000 assistance to each eligible student directly into their bank accounts, facilitating digital inclusion and enhancing accessibility for educational purposes.
