Pradyot Deb Barma urges voters to secure the future of Tripura’s tribal communities during TTAADC elections, highlighting rights, peaceful voting, high turnout, and rejecting political violence ahead of crucial April 17 results.

Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma, founder of Tipra Motha, made a strong appeal to voters to think beyond immediate concerns and prioritize the future of their children as polling continued in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections. Casting his vote at Mandwi in West Tripura district, Pradyot emphasized that the election carries long-term implications for the survival and rights of tribal communities.

Speaking to reporters after voting, Pradyot said that the decision taken by voters today would shape the destiny of future generations. “Whatever people choose, they will choose for their children and for the next generation. They will choose their rights, because that is essential for survival in the long run,” he stated, underscoring the importance of responsible voting.

The TTAADC elections, seen as a crucial political contest in the state, witnessed a significant voter turnout early in the day. According to election officials, approximately 65 percent of voters had already exercised their franchise by 1 pm, reflecting strong public participation. Pradyot welcomed this enthusiasm, noting that high voter turnout has been a consistent feature in Tripura’s electoral history.

“Tripura has always had a high turnout, and I am hoping for a peaceful election,” he added. His remarks come amid heightened political activity and concerns over isolated incidents of unrest reported in certain areas during the campaign period.

Addressing the issue of political violence, Pradyot took a firm stance against the use of intimidation in politics. He asserted that his party does not depend on coercion or unlawful elements to secure votes. “I have no need for goondas in politics,” he said, sending a clear message about his party’s approach to maintaining democratic integrity.

Referring to the recent incident in Takarjala, which has drawn attention due to alleged involvement of individuals with criminal backgrounds, Pradyot described the situation as “very unfortunate.” He criticized the practice of granting political tickets to such individuals and indicated that he would provide a detailed response after the elections conclude.

The TTAADC elections are particularly significant as they determine the governance of tribal areas in Tripura, impacting policies related to land rights, cultural preservation, and socio-economic development. Political analysts view this election as a test of public trust and a reflection of the aspirations of indigenous communities.

With counting scheduled for April 17, Pradyot expressed confidence in the electorate’s wisdom. “I am very hopeful. Let’s wait for April 17. I have faith in the people,” he said. His statement reflects a broader sentiment that voters will make informed choices that prioritize stability, rights, and long-term progress.
