Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman urges Northeast India to embrace regional unity and political self-reliance through the “One North East” initiative, calling for a new political model free from national party dependence and regional disunity.

Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman has made a passionate appeal for political self-reliance in the North East, urging people to “be vocal for local in politics.” Speaking during a social media livestream on Tuesday, Pradyot called on the people of the region to stop depending on national parties and central leaders for every solution.

His remarks came a day after he formally announced the launch of “One North East,” a regional political initiative aimed at fostering cooperation, unity, and self-governance among the eight north-eastern states. “For decades, we have been made to feel inferior and dependent on Delhi for every solution,” Pradyot said. “Somewhere, we have accepted that we are servants. The older generation has internalised the idea that we are inferior. Every national party divides us, and we keep falling for it.”

A Call for Regional Confidence and Self-Respect

Pradyot lamented that critical regional issues like the Inner Line Permit system, or the inclusion of the North East’s history and culture in national curricula, were rarely given serious consideration by the Centre. He accused national parties of exploiting divisions among the region’s communities while ignoring long-standing socio-political concerns.

“Our leaders constantly look to Delhi for answers. Illegal immigration is a serious issue, yet instead of uniting, we fight among ourselves while outsiders laugh at our disunity,” he said.

Appeal for Tribal-Bengali Harmony in Tripura

Addressing Tripura’s deep-rooted ethnic divides, Pradyot made a heartfelt appeal for harmony between the tribal and Bengali communities, warning that mutual mistrust has only weakened the state’s social fabric. “Tribals call Bengalis Bangladeshis, and Bengalis call tribals Mongolians. This must stop. Unless we unite, we will remain backward,” he said.

The Tipra Motha leader emphasized that unity among communities was essential for progress. He argued that Tripura and the broader North East could not afford to remain trapped in cycles of blame and division while the rest of India advanced.

A New Political Model for the Region

Pradyot criticized the existing political model in the North East, saying it had failed to deliver for the people. “The health of our democracy depends on fresh thinking. Our children deserve a new model of politics — not one built on division and dependency,” he said.

Through One North East, Pradyot envisions a platform that will unite the region’s political voices under a shared vision of dignity, representation, and empowerment. He said that leaders from several north-eastern states had already expressed interest in joining the new regional front.

“In the next 45 days, our committee will hold consultations to shape our ideology and roadmap. This will be a democratic process — a fight for our survival,” he declared. The movement, he insisted, would not serve personal ambitions but would work for the collective welfare of the region’s people.

Critique of National Parties

Taking direct aim at the national political establishment, Pradyot recounted his own decision to leave a national party after realizing that it did not prioritize the North East’s needs. “It’s been 76 years since Tripura and Manipur merged with India. We have voted loyally for 75 years. Yet, why do states like Chhattisgarh or Punjab matter more than us?” he questioned.

“No leader from Delhi will solve the North East’s problems,” he continued, asserting that meaningful change must begin from within the region itself. “The change must begin here — from within us,” he said.

The Vision Ahead

Pradyot’s “One North East” initiative signals a growing sentiment of regional self-determination among younger political voices in the region. His message — rooted in cultural pride, unity, and political self-sufficiency — aims to shift the conversation from dependency on central politics to regional empowerment.

By invoking the phrase “Be vocal for local in politics,” Pradyot is calling for a political awakening that redefines the relationship between the North East and the rest of India — not as a dependency, but as an equal partnership built on mutual respect and understanding.
