Jitendra Choudhury, state secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), launched a scathing attack against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre as well as state in a poll campaign for his party candidadtes in Dhanpur and Boxanagar. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had led to nine years of deception and neglect for the people, particularly the impoverished, including farmers and agricultural laborers.
Speaking at a party gathering in Sonamura in support of the Left front candidates Kaushik Chanda and Mizan Hussain, who are nominated for the upcoming Dhanpur and Boxanagar by-elections, Choudhury emphasized the significance of the by-election results in shaping the national political landscape ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Choudhury claimed, “The BJP secured victory in the last assembly elections in Tripura due to the division of votes among opposition parties. Otherwise, the party’s grip on the state would have been loosened. This reflects the lack of trust the people have in the BJP due to their abject failures over the last five years.”
The CPI-M leader pointed to a deteriorating law and order situation in Tripura and accused the BJP of suppressing democratic voices and seizing opportunities from disadvantaged families. He urged the residents of Sonamura sub-division to participate actively in the electoral process and cast their votes in favor of the Left front candidates.
Both Kaushik Chanda and Mizan Hussain, accompanied by a large number of party supporters, participated in a rally and submitted their nominations on Wednesday. The by-elections in the Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies are anticipated to have a significant impact on the future political scenario, with both sides mobilizing their supporters to secure a favorable outcome.
As the campaigning intensifies, the political narrative in Tripura is becoming increasingly charged, with parties exchanging accusations and promoting their agendas in the lead-up to the critical by-elections. The results, set to be revealed on September 8, will undoubtedly shape the state’s political trajectory and possibly reverberate on the national stage.
