PM Urges States to Develop Global-Standard Tourist Destinations at 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meet
In a significant push toward inclusive and sustainable development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi, where he called upon all Indian states to develop at least one world-class tourist destination each. The initiative, he emphasized, should be backed by comprehensive infrastructure and top-tier facilities to meet global benchmarks.

Speaking under the vision of “One State: One Global Destination”, the Prime Minister said this move would not only boost tourism revenues but also catalyze the growth of neighboring towns and cities. “When a state develops a globally competitive tourist hub, it has a cascading impact on the region—generating jobs, spurring local businesses, and modernizing civic infrastructure,” he noted.

A Vision for Future-Ready Cities
Highlighting the increasing pace of urbanization in India, PM Modi underlined the importance of creating future-ready cities that embody growth, innovation, and sustainability. “Urban spaces must be developed not just to accommodate, but to empower,” he stated, urging states to prepare urban centers to serve as engines of economic activity, creativity, and green development.
He reiterated that India’s urban transformation must be both human-centric and environment-friendly, stressing the need to invest in smart infrastructure, integrated transport systems, digital governance, and climate-resilient planning.
A Call for Unity: “Team India” for Viksit Bharat
The Prime Minister made a powerful appeal for greater Centre-State cooperation, asserting that “no goal is impossible when India works as Team India.” He reiterated that the shared goal of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047—marking 100 years of Independence—can only be realized when every state becomes a “Viksit Rajya” (Developed State).
“This vision is not just mine—it is the aspiration of 140 crore Indians,” he said. “Every region, every citizen must feel ownership and pride in this national mission. Together, we can and must build a new India—prosperous, inclusive, and future-ready.”

Empowering Women: Inclusion in Workforce
In another key intervention, PM Modi emphasized the critical importance of integrating women into the workforce in a respectful and enabling manner. He called upon all governments to ensure that laws and policies are inclusive and supportive of women’s participation, particularly in sectors where their contributions have been historically underrepresented.
“When women progress, families and nations progress,” the Prime Minister said, reinforcing the need for skilling, flexible work policies, and institutional reforms that promote gender equity.
High-Level Participation & Collaborative Agenda
The meeting saw the active participation of several prominent leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, and Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai, among others. Union Ministers, Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories, the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, its Members, and CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam were also present.
This year’s theme—“Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047”—aims to encourage states to prepare bold, long-term development strategies that are aligned with national priorities and based on time-bound targets. The council is deliberating on pressing development challenges, strategies for boosting entrepreneurship, skill enhancement, and generation of sustainable employment across sectors.
The meeting reaffirmed NITI Aayog’s role as a key facilitator of cooperative federalism and a platform for policy coordination between the Centre and the States. Leaders are expected to submit vision documents and progress frameworks to align with the 2047 goals, and to identify state-specific milestones for economic, social, and infrastructural progress.
The 10th Governing Council Meeting marks another step forward in India’s developmental journey, emphasizing collaborative governance, regional empowerment, and citizen-centric planning as the bedrock of a truly developed India by 2047.
