Pithe Puli Utsav in West Tripura celebrates agricultural heritage, fostering social harmony and cultural unity. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlights the festival’s role in promoting Indian traditions, honoring farmers’ hard work, and strengthening community bonds.

The Pithe Puli Utsav, a traditional harvest festival, was inaugurated today at the Ballavpur School Premises in Sadar, West Tripura, by Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The minister emphasized the festival’s significant role in promoting social harmony, reviving humanity, and strengthening Indian cultural values through its deep agricultural roots.

Addressing the attendees, Minister Nath highlighted that the Pithe Puli Utsav is more than just a festival—it is a celebration that brings people together, transcending religious and social boundaries. “This is not a religious or social program but an outcome of an agriculture-based lifestyle, tradition, and culture. This festival is celebrated across the country under various names, symbolizing the beginning of Uttarayan Yatra and the joy of the new harvest in farmers’ households,” he explained.

The minister further described the winter season as a unique time when nature transforms with golden crops and clear skies, inspiring festive enthusiasm. “During this period, we organize events like Pithe Puli Utsav, Nagar Kirtan, Lok Sangeet, and Baul Kirtan, all rooted in agriculture, nature, and centuries-old community relationships. These celebrations honor the hard work of farmers and the prosperity their efforts bring,” Nath added.

Minister Nath paid tribute to the tireless dedication of farmers who work day and night, braving harsh weather conditions to ensure food security. “Farmers are not only producers of food but also the foundation of our civilization. The Pithe Puli Utsav unites everyone. Indian traditions rooted in agriculture are being followed globally today. Our country, the land of Swami Vivekananda, is built on this foundation,” he remarked.

Emphasizing the need to balance modernization with cultural preservation, the minister urged the community not to forget their roots. “Modernization is important, but those who fail to maintain their culture cannot succeed in the long run. The Pithe Puli Utsav is vital as it promotes social harmony and awakens humanity. Indian culture shapes strong and real individuals,” he said.
