NFDC launches a free, fully residential 8-month training program in 3D Animation and VFX for youth from Northeast India. Open to residents of 8 states, the program offers industry exposure, a high-performance laptop, and job-oriented skills. Apply by August 15 at skill.nfdcindia.com/Specialproject.
In a major boost to digital skill development in the Northeastern region, the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), operating under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has announced a free, fully residential training programme in 3D Animation and Visual Effects (VFX) exclusively for youth from the eight Northeastern states.
The initiative aims to empower the young population of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura by providing world-class training in animation and visual effects—two of the fastest-growing sectors within India’s digital media landscape.
The course, which spans eight months, is designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills, improve employability, and foster long-term economic empowerment. The programme comprises six months of intensive classroom training followed by two months of on-the-job industry experience. It will be conducted in collaboration with Aptech Limited, a leading media and entertainment training institute, at a designated centre in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking about the initiative, NFDC officials stated, “Our goal is to remove financial and geographic barriers to access for talented youth in the Northeast. The training will not only enhance their creative and technical competencies but also offer exposure to real-world projects and professional studio environments.”
To ensure accessibility, the programme covers all major expenses, including accommodation, meals, training resources, and even provides a high-performance laptop for each selected participant to use during the course. On completion, candidates will receive a joint certification from the NFDC and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), enhancing their credentials in the competitive job market.
Eligibility criteria require that applicants be at least 18 years old as of June 2025 and have completed either Class 12 or Class 10 with at least three years of relevant work experience in the creative or digital domain. A nominal, non-refundable registration fee of ₹1,180 has been fixed. Aspiring candidates can apply through the NFDC website or directly via the portal skill.nfdcindia.com/Specialproject.
The application deadline is August 15, and only 100 candidates will be selected through a rigorous screening process to ensure quality and commitment.
This marks the third edition of the NFDC’s residential programme aimed at developing digital talent in the region. The previous editions have seen several graduates successfully placed in film studios, digital content companies, and animation firms. Many others have gone on to start their own entrepreneurial ventures in content creation, gaming, and digital storytelling.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, officials emphasized that the program is not just about learning technical skills—it also instills creative confidence and industry awareness. Participants will gain hands-on experience working on live projects using industry-standard software and workflows employed by leading animation and VFX studios.
With the rise of OTT platforms, gaming, and digital advertising, the demand for skilled animators and VFX artists is growing rapidly. However, access to quality training and infrastructure has been limited in the Northeastern states. Through this programme, NFDC aims to bridge the digital skill gap and unlock new opportunities for youth from the region.
Apart from VFX and animation, NFDC has also been a key contributor to skill development in filmmaking, gaming, and digital content creation, emerging as a leading government-backed agency focused on building a strong creative workforce for India’s evolving media ecosystem.
The corporation has consistently played a crucial role in promoting Indian cinema and now extends its vision to include skill-building as a vital part of the country’s soft power strategy. By focusing on regions like the Northeast, which often remain underrepresented in national skill development efforts, NFDC is striving to build an inclusive creative economy.
