Governors, Chief Ministers, and thousands across Northeast India celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 with mass events in every state. Leaders emphasized Yoga’s global importance, mental well-being, and cultural heritage. From Assam to Arunachal, Yoga united people in a shared pursuit of health, peace, and spiritual harmony.

On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day (IYD), the entire northeastern region of India witnessed enthusiastic participation from Governors, Chief Ministers, senior government officials, security personnel, civil society members, and the general public. Across all eight northeastern states, a wave of Yoga events swept through cities, towns, and even remote villages on Saturday, marking a day of collective wellness and unity.

The International Yoga Day was observed under the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, resonating with the global call for holistic living and sustainable health practices. The event also reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Humanity 2.0’, which emphasizes a mindful, balanced way of living through Yoga.

Assam: A Cultural and Spiritual Bond Through Yoga

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a grand Yoga event held at Salbari in Baksa district. Addressing the gathering, he underlined Yoga’s profound impact on the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of individuals. “Yoga is not just exercise—it’s a lifestyle and a cultural heritage of India that the world has embraced,” Sarma said.

He credited Prime Minister Modi’s tireless efforts for elevating Yoga to the global stage. Sarma reminded attendees of Modi’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014, which led to the formal declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day by the UN on December 11 of the same year.

Manipur: Unity Through Asanas

Manipur joined the global celebration with events held in both the valley and hill districts. The state-level celebration took place at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal, where Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla led around 1,000 participants in performing Yoga. He emphasized the importance of making Yoga a daily habit, especially for the younger generation.

Participants included students, government officials, security forces, and Yoga enthusiasts. The spirit of unity and wellness was palpable, as people from diverse backgrounds performed the Common Yoga Protocol together.

Tripura: A Call for Mental and Physical Health

In Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha took part in the main IYD event at Hapania in West Tripura. He spoke about Yoga’s ability to reduce stress and promote mental peace.

He urged citizens to join hands in creating a health-conscious society and called for a mass movement against the growing challenge of HIV/AIDS in the state.

Arunachal Pradesh: A Global Message of Peace

Arunachal Pradesh observed IYD with Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K.T. Parnaik and Chief Minister Pema Khandu taking the lead. Events were held across the state, with both leaders stressing Yoga’s role in promoting inner peace, mental clarity, and social harmony. “Yoga is a timeless gift from India’s ancient wisdom that brings about a union of body, mind, and spirit,” Governor Parnaik said.
