Assam Rifles celebrates International Yoga Day with mass sessions, emphasizing soldier wellness. The visit reflects ongoing efforts to boost operational efficiency and mental resilience in India’s northeastern region.

Major General S.S. Kartikeya, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army, conducted a high-level visit to an Army training facility in Tripura to assess the combat preparedness of troops stationed in the northeastern region. According to defence officials, the visit underscored the Army’s ongoing focus on operational readiness, technological integration, and soldier motivation amid challenging terrain and security conditions.

During his visit, Major General Kartikeya reviewed several advanced training modules, including jungle warfare, live firing drills, drone operations, obstacle navigation, and special forces tactics. These training programs have been designed to enhance terrain-specific capabilities and tactical responsiveness of troops in the region.

Defence spokesperson Lt Col Amit Shukla stated that the facility has been instrumental in equipping soldiers with skills tailored to the unique demands of the northeastern landscape. “The modules focus not only on physical strength and endurance but also integrate modern warfare tactics using advanced technologies such as drone surveillance and rapid assault techniques,” he said.

After observing the demonstration exercises, the GOC interacted with soldiers and commended their performance. He specifically highlighted their adaptability to evolving combat technologies, high levels of physical and mental resilience, and their professional discipline under demanding conditions.

Major General Kartikeya lauded the troops for their unwavering dedication and encouraged all ranks to continue their pursuit of excellence. He emphasized that continuous improvement and focus on capability-building remain essential for maintaining security and stability in sensitive regions.

“This visit is a reaffirmation of the Army’s commitment to enhance its preparedness and ensure that troops are always ready to face emerging challenges. The emphasis is not only on combat proficiency but also on strengthening morale, cohesion, and overall combat effectiveness,” Lt Col Shukla added.

Assam Rifles Marks International Yoga Day with Mass Participation

In a parallel initiative highlighting the holistic approach to soldier welfare, the Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, organized mass yoga sessions to commemorate the 11th International Yoga Day at its garrisons in Agartala and Udaipur. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of troops, their family members, and children.

The defence release noted that the Yoga Day celebrations were aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and inner discipline among personnel. “Such initiatives play a key role in maintaining operational efficiency by instilling a sense of calm, resilience, and clarity among the troops,” the statement read.

By integrating traditional Indian wellness practices such as yoga into the daily routine of its personnel, the Assam Rifles has reaffirmed its commitment to the all-round development of its soldiers. These efforts not only improve health but also support the mental preparedness and psychological endurance of the force.

The defence statement further emphasized that maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle is as important as combat training. “The physical and mental fortitude built through yoga and similar activities ensures that the troops remain ever-ready and capable of serving the nation, even in the most demanding environments,” it added.

Operational Focus with a Human Touch

The back-to-back initiatives—ranging from reviewing tactical preparedness to fostering mental wellness—showcase the Indian Army’s multi-pronged strategy in enhancing the capability, endurance, and morale of its personnel. While high-intensity combat training ensures operational superiority, wellness programs like mass yoga sessions provide the much-needed mental and emotional balance crucial for long-term service in high-pressure scenarios.
