Tripura reports no confirmed Nipah virus cases amid West Bengal suspicions. CM Dr. Manik Saha urges calm and vigilance. Health officials strengthen safety measures and public awareness. Stay informed, avoid panic, and follow health advisories for prevention.
In light of recent reports of suspected Nipah virus cases in neighboring West Bengal, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha addressed public concerns on Friday, assuring that no confirmed cases have been reported in the state. He emphasized the importance of staying alert without causing panic among the citizens.
Dr. Saha informed the media that, according to official sources, around three suspected Nipah cases have emerged in West Bengal. However, Tripura has not recorded any such cases so far. The Chief Minister highlighted that the Nipah virus is naturally carried by fruit bats, commonly known as flying foxes, and that precautionary measures have been promptly initiated to prevent any possible outbreak within the state.
“We are well aware that the Nipah virus originates from fruit bats. Reports of cases from West Bengal have been received, and I have immediately instructed health officials to implement all necessary safety protocols in Tripura,” Dr. Saha said.
The Health Department is already following these directives, taking urgent steps to enhance preparedness. Dr. Saha urged the public to avoid misinformation and refrain from spreading panic. “No Nipah case has been detected here as of now. I request everyone not to be confused or alarmed by rumors. The government is fully committed to protecting public health and is following all standard operating procedures,” he added.
Supporting the Chief Minister’s statement, National Health Mission (NHM) Mission Director Saju Vaheed A confirmed that there is no active Nipah virus case in Tripura. The health department has intensified surveillance, strengthened hospital preparedness, enhanced isolation facilities, and reinforced infection control measures. Healthcare workers are being trained to quickly identify and manage any suspected cases to prevent community transmission.

Health authorities have also advised residents to take preventive actions, including avoiding raw date palm sap or toddy consumption, eating only washed and properly peeled fruits, and refraining from consuming half-eaten or fallen fruits. Maintaining hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and water regularly, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and following government guidelines on safe handling of patients and deceased persons are strongly recommended.
The Tripura government remains vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the health of its people. Citizens are urged to cooperate fully with authorities and remain cautious while continuing their daily activities.
